I'm Pissed

Today I had an unsettling encounter here on the site that I think people should know about.
I have a scope for sale and someone says I'm priced to high. They stated the following "With a first reponders discount the price would be lower new then what I'm asking for it."
I told them that my price is based on regular peoples price as new. Their response was "everyone knows some sort of first responder to get the discount for you",
I find that so dishonest and unethical and down right wrong and it can land the first responder in trouble for misrepresentation.

People must remember words end up as actions with consequences.

Yes with some of the deep discounts offered to groups of people it really muddies the water. Those prices IMHO are for that person and are usually used in some way for profits gained or in some other way than intended. It's like a race to the bottom and no one cares as long as they get the best price THIS time.

That fella should have found a first responder accomplice, made his purchase online or where ever and left you the hell alone.

What possible benefit . . . oh, never mind. Sorry you had to deal with that.

There was a fella here selling something that was high and dry at one point, and kept bumping it. I let him know via a pm that my local shop I buy the same item from was about ~10-15 less for the exact same item and could be why he hadnt sold it. It wasnt priced like it was hard to get anymore. I didnt want to say it publicly and sabotage his possible sale, but wanted to let him know, so I pm'd him. Probably how that should have been handled as well.

I'm a firefighter myself and take advantage of some of those discounts occasionally. It is unethical for me to use it for someone else. You want the discount then serve for your community as fire, police, ems etc. I figure if you don't like the price then move on.

A few years a ago we were at the FTW Gun Show at Amon Carter. I have this tight ass buddy that was wanting to buy an 870 Express. He was holding it and told the guy he could get it for what ever price at Acadamy. That guy took that shotgun out of his hands so fast and told him to "just tear your ass!" The rest of us nearly had to be carried out of there cause we was laughing so hard. Maybe he should "just tear his ass" also.

It takes all kinds...a few days ago one of my tenants told me he wanted to "renegotiate" his lease. I said, "really!!!, what part???" He said mainly the rent because he found a place that was $200 a month less. I quickly told him that is where he had better go and if he didn't cut the grass more often I would cut it and "renegotiate" that price of cutting it into the new lease.
Whenever I am selling something and the potential buyer tells me he can get it cheaper elsewhere, I always ask him why he is talking to me. I often tell people that "I am not going to be upset if you leave {or buy elsewhere}"

I'm a retired first responder, fire fighter, and I can tell you I have never acted like that. Some people think the world owes them. Wrong. We don't need guys, or gals, like that.

I too am a retired fire fighter(21 years, Lt. for 3) and I have been retired on disability for 20 years (broke back) and I never have nor will I ever look for a special price for my service to my community. Hell I didn't even have " handi-cap parking permit until after my 8th lumbar surgery -fusion, and still don't use it all the time.
Show the ungrateful SOB the door.

This crap really irritates me. I don't mind someone offering a reasonable price in a PM that's a bit less. But it chaps me when they get offended when you don't accept the offer!! Like you owe it to them to take less than you listed the item for!

My favorite is "wow, you could have had this sold"...yeah and you could have owned it if you weren't such a tight ass!

What I don't understand is why some people make your business theirs. It's pretty simple, it's basic economics called supply and demand. If your scope doesn't sell then you have to decide if it's in your best interest to sell the scope at a reduced price. I'm sure the guy emailed you thinking he was doing you a favor. That being said, you didn't advertise looking for assistance in selling your scope.

I get this all the time as a small shop owner. Sometimes with a smirk. Not being nomadic as gun show dealers I have to count to 50 before responding. I'm not saying I'm nice about it, but I explain that that's where they should go purchase their firearm. I also get all my stuff at wholesale, but that is never led me to make a snarky comment to a guy trying to sell something here.

Sounds like that guy has a guilty conscience. He's accusing you of something he would more than likely do. Pretty hypocritical. Keep it listed and move on. It's your business, nobody else's. There's many more decent people here than judgemental.

Thud, A "gentleman" that had found out about my medical condition offered me $5,000 for my sailboat. It is priced at $40,000 and that is a large discount. It takes all kinds and a lot are bottom-feeders. P.S. It's a Valiant 40 if anybody is interested. Tom
