Over the last several years I've been shooting a 6BR and 6BRX with Berger VLDs, Hybrids, 107gr SMKs and Hornady 108ELMs. Through James Mock I had the opportunity to buy 500 of Bart's Hammer 105s and took them to the range for the first time this morning. The chrony is a Magnetospeed.

I have Savage action, my BRX barrel is a 29" 8 twist by X-Caliber, I was using Lapua brass and CCI450 primers, and built some loads starting on the lower side of the scale with H4895 and Varget. The bullets were 25 off the lands, and I didn't make any changes in the process length wise.

I'm not one of the more "accomplished" competitors at our 300 and 600 yard matches....usually pleased to find myself in the middle of the pack, though always aspiring for better!

James has had some real good results with H4895, so I began with those rounds, followed by the Varget.

The first target shows the best two groups I had with the H4895...I went up to 32.4gr.

With the Varget I just went up to 32.2, which was the load I'd been shooting the Bergers and Sierras. All four of the best groups with the Varget were sequential.

Maybe it was just my lucky day, but I have a strong suspicion it has something to do with the bullets from Bart.

Any feedback on preference between varget and H4895. I’ve always used varget in my 6br, but I’m getting a new barrel and most of the guys I shoot with told me to make the switch over to H4895

you're going to like that BRX for your info here's a 300 yard 6 shot target with mine it's about like yours , 28 inch 1/8 twist Krieger HV , I been told any 5 shot group 1 inch or under is a competitive rifle for 1000 yards, I haven't had the opportunity to try 1k yet, I did shoot at steel at 600 yards not much to it. Good luck with the BRX it's a good one

Any group under an inch at 1000 will set records- not just be competitive

Walker2713, a word of warning. I was shooting a lot# of H4895 at 31.0g being the accuracy node. In this lot#, 31.8 is what I considered a max load.

Well, today, I had to open a new keg. I figured since 31.8g was a max load in the previous lot#, that I would be ok with 31.0g. Well, I blanked the primer on the first case at 31.0g with the new keg.

So, time to start completely over on the new keg!

Good luck!

I've got two kegs of Varget, and I've settled on 31.4 grains for that powder with the Barts 105s. We had a 300 yard match Saturday, and I managed to shoot a 290/300 and still came in fifth....a competitive crowd. :(

View attachment 1063807 This was shot today at a 600 yard match in Memphis by Bruce Buchanan. It’s 5 shots at 600 yards

measuring .852! Anything sub inch at 600 is awesome! This one would have been really little if not for the one shot that popped out!

Bart
I was in the pits next to the guy pulling Bruce's target, it was automatic knuckle bumps, and high fives!!
