Illinois Gun Registration

Don’t forget the retired cops and jail guards - they get an exemption, because why?
we retirees who SUPPOSEDLY got an exemption, were told to register. Go figure. I have no idea how that's working out for <them>. And just for an FYI.... 2 ISP Academy classes graduated today. A total of 20, count them, 20 cadets graduated and were sworn in. I'd bet more than 20 are retiring each week and at this rate, there is no way numbers of Troopers will ever catch up to the need. Troops knocking on our doors?!?!? They don't have the manpower, can't seem to recruit the manpower, and it just ain't gonna happen.

Every year in PA and NY teachers have to send in a myriad of statistics from state mandated testing of students. Every year new teachers worry about it...almost like they are afraid that somewhere there is a massive room full of cubicles full of mole-like data miners who review those pages and pages of data and decide "oh., gee, Mrs. McFarkle's class had seven kindergartners whose scores are not in synch with the curve", then they hit a big button deploying a cadre of white coated investigators who will come and smack Mrs. McFarkle on the tit for failing her kindergartners. Truth be told, there is no one who gives a chit in the cubicles, and they can't even add up 3 and 4 and get 7 to begin with. And there is NO ONE who will enforce it. At best a report will cut funding because Mrs. McFarkles school failed to lie well enough in the reporting to "pass" the BS inspection...and next year they will lie better. So will Mrs. McFarkle.

Now, back to our topic after this imaginary whimsical foray into another glaringly deficient governemental directed "service" we call public education...

In the case of "gun control" , the criminals already know this. Feral &astards they are, they get it. We just need a healthy dose of reality and cynicism. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

Let's say a person doesn't register their ar. IF they charge you how long do you think you'll have your concealed carry license before its pulled. I'd sure like to see everything south of Rockford be the 51st state!

Because it is Illinois.

I know most of you "downstaters" didn't choose this path, but you have the ability to live somewhere that doesn't treat you like this.
I'm not looking for an arguement, however, as a "downstater" I have to ask, what do you mean?

Whole lot of what if’s and speculation involved in an Illinois resident’s decision to comply with this unconstitutional law. Do you register, resist, sell em all or send them to an out of state relative until this shakes out?

Enforcement will as Joe says be almost impossible with current ISP staffing. Many downstate county sheriffs have indicated it will not be actively enforced.
But even if the law is overturned if you fall into an unfortunate circumstance and are charged with a crime , even if the law is overturned , you still have that in your record.

And if you do register, they always have that list. Also very clear that failure to register all banned items may also be a felony.

I predict that after this latest non ruling that the compliance rate will jump up from the current less than 1% of IL gun owners.

Illinois is ruled by the top right corner of the state. The I-39 to the east and I-80 north chunk is the tail that wags the dog in Illinois. Very red state with a few blue counties near St Louis and some college towns other than that upper right corner.

I have many Cuban friends that have told of Castro's enforcement of Cuba's no gun law. No one down there complied either, it was a toothless law. Till one day an otherwise great guy was celebrating some keynote day and had a little too much to drink, then got to loud for one of his neighbors. The cops came put him in cuffs then searched the house. The found his dads old hunting rifle even though he thought it was hidden very well. Now instead of a night in jail he gets 20 years. The neighbor ladies, and everyone that hears about this all take notice, so when one of their husbands go to uncle Wilie's house to fish for a few days the wife finds all his guns and turns them in. Then other ladies hear that they can be turned in with no jail time and many more comply when their husband is away. An example needs to be made occasionally, to keep the masses in line. this will be a law that the Sorros owned DA will be glad to enforce, while she is in court letting murders and rapists go free.

Fair.

The politicians (always a D) give the fire and police privileges beyond normal citizens in favor of keeping their unions in line and voting blue. See gun rights and pensions driving Chicago and IL bankrupt.

When only cops get handguns, are allowed to CCW, and have protected pensions, they are better than you in the eyes of your lawmakers.

That was my impression the two years I lived upstate. But, I'm a redneck from MO who prefers rights over safety, so YMMV.

BTW, IL has some good people living there, and I wish the best for them all.

But note how many shooter/

murders were retired or off duty LE. Politicians forget that, don't they ??

“Tragically, law enforcement officers have a 54% increase in suicide risk when compared to the civilian population (McAward, 2022).”

Why trust a group of people with privileges that are less stable than the civilian population?

2.5 million felons as of Jan 1 2024 - storm troopers a comin? Who knows, but I sure will be safer in mu community, NOT even going to change anything that actually causes the BS shootings in the cities.

But Mom's Demand Action and JB will fell so much better. We have had the FOID for as long as I been around, I would think if I/we were the real issue our FOID would be revoked.
While do get that, this LAW does 0 to help curb the random violence and again penalizes us actual tax paying productive citizens.
No, it won't but they don't care about that. they want complete control most likely it will be like the ABC states, buy to much liquor and someone comes from the state to check on you, keep buying to much and you get cut off.

I’ve heard many County Sheriffs publicly state they will not enforce the ban.

As red as parts of IL are, property doesn’t vote, citizens do.

No one I know is complying with the requirement.

I also buy all the components I need right across the WI border. Better prices, better selections, usually in stock. None of IL’s BS has stopped me in the least, other than I don’t buy anything firearm related in IL anymore.

It sure would be nice if BOTH sides actually tried to work together to prevent these shootings. Instead we get the Muh rights vs. Ban everything. The shootings have now become a norm in American life, which seems very un-American.

Every new law or ruling that is passed, in any of the states does nothing to stop a criminal from doing a crime, with a firearm or any other weapon. These laws only effect the honest, law biding citizen and also allow the politicians and judges to further attempt to remove the 2nd Amendment, of which every one of them in their Oath of Office take a Oath to uphold and defend.
They have now well over 300 plus gun laws and not one of them stops a criminal from breaking the Law of Murder. Yet they just can not seem to comprehend that in their minds and understand none of what they are doing is effecting the criminal when he decides to take one or more human lives in his crime spree.

Not specially Illinois but I heard talk of them using illegals to fill the shortage! How crazy is that?

ISP has a college requirement that I doubt the merit board would let pass. I seriously doubt there are many swimming the river that have a degree.
