if you was going to build?????

If it was a 22 caliber what would you build? good accuracy, good barrel life. descent velocity.
same for 6mm.
same for 6.5mm.
same for 7mm.
barrels gotta last a little while. 800 shots and done doesn't count.

what's a 7x55? Probably stay away from the AI's. 6x47l is a possibility but it's hell finding brass. got 100 and been waiting on 100 from midway for bout a decade now. thanks though.

For what purpose and at what ranges and at what size targets?

For your 22 question, I assume your talking varmints; here would be my choices : Up to 300 yards - 223; beyond 300 yards - 22 250 or 243.

You don't need some elaborate wildcat - these will get the job down with a quality rifle, quality scope, quality reloads.

There's an important question or two you have to answer first and that is how much work and time are you willing to invest in brass preparation and reloading? Brass for some calibers you can order from several companies, other calibers such as the 6mm Dasher cannot be purchased and require a lot of work resizing. If you're not reloading then recommended choice of calibers will be limited greatly. I have a custom 6.5-284 I just had built; I love the accuracy and it's long range capabilities but I would not have made the purchase if I didn't reload because I know of only one company that manufactures ammunition for it.

Lastly, the intended use of each caliber is very important. For example, for a 7mm my all around choice is the 7x57 mauser. It's a great round for deer size game, light recoil and deadly accurate. That being said, If I lived out west where shots will often exceed 200 yards, I'd consider a 7mm mag if recoil does not bother you.

If you're talking varmint hunting.

22Br
6br with a 10 or 12 twist barrel
6.5 Lapua
7mm WSM or a 284.

an alternate list... depending on what you want to do with the 6.5 or the 7mm:

220 Swift
243
260
280

To be different i would go.

22 ppc why ? inherently more accurate than the 223
6mmbr why ? because you can get brass of the shelf
6.5x47L why? mild recoil and long barrel life
7x57mauser why? as above

I have seen the 7x57 mentioned a couple of times on this thread. Almost brings a tear to my eye. This round deserves more attention.

P.S. I live out west and my 7x57 killed elk good enuff for my .338 to get a new home. ;)

got 6.5x47 lapua.
hope to build 6br next.
22 cal??? I'm still not sure what I'd build.
7? I'm still not convinced on that one either.
what's the two most accurate? 7? and 22? that's probably what I'll go with.

For target shooting...

22BR

6 Dasher

6.5 X 47 Lapua

.284 Shehane

For accuracy and barrel life I think these have an advantage.

22-250
243 ( later to be a 243AI)
25-06 AI
6mm BR
.260

I have no need for anything larger

what size bullet would you shoot out of mauser. it's kind of a slow round isn't it?
I use 140 and 150 gr . partition bullets out of it for hunting purposes. It is no slower then a 7 mm-08 or other similar sized cases with modern components.
I wont list any loads, but some would be amazed at what a modern built 7x57 loaded to modern but acceptable pressures is capable of.
