If you prime by depth you should watch this test.

I have used the Sinclair tool for both small and large rifle priming operations for well over 20 years now and have been completely 100% satisfied with them. They are extremely durable and easy to use. For me, they are well worth the investment.

However, I seat by feel which seems to work quite well for me. I do uniform the primer pockets with the Sinclair tool, but I am not sure that it makes a difference on target or least I haven't been able to detect a difference between uniformed and non-uniformed pockets. However, being slightly anal :( I continued to uniform the pockets.

I'm with you K22. I've used my Sinclair tool for 25 + years and am happy with it. I uniform the primer pockets to .124. Then seat by feel. I have adjusted the tool to give me good crush feel and .008 depth. I also clean the residue out of the pockets before seating a new primer.

If consistency is the goal, why not consider the K&M primer gauge?
I try to do things that would work at a group match, where there is limited time to do things like reloading and barrel cleaning. I have been fortunate to have been around and spoken with many top shooters and most of the short range group shooters that I can think of (in fact all) seat by feel, and shoot very well that way. The big issues are staying in tune as ambient conditions change, and reading wind flags. This kind of reminds me of a conversation that I was having today in which I reminded a friend that there is no rifle tracking trophy, and that what track the best may not shoot the best. If a thing works, I leave it alone, so that I can concentrate on the things that I know need improvement.

Me too, I have always forever, cleaned the pockets before seating primers. The Sinclair uniform tool make cleaning the pockets really easy.

After seating literally thousands of rifle primers, I have developed a very good feel for seating them.

For the guys that seat by feel, such as myself. I just tried a quick experiment. I used 3 cases that the primer pockets are uniformed to the same depth. Measured and Used primers that were the same thickness. Seated the primers by feel (until they hit the bottom). It was only 3 case but the primer depth measured the same on all 3 cases. Oh yeah…21st priming tool

As someone who has been using the primal rights unit for about a year now (with the primal rights analog primer seating depth gauge), I do question the technique/results on this test. Because I personally get +/- 0.0005 depths with ease almost every time.

I’m not sure how much better a Sinclair priming tool is compared to the 21c set but the click adjustable settings on this primer tool make it pretty easy stay in the crush window.
I do struggle measuring primer depth with a caliper tail , has never been consistent enough for me to rely on above a paper target.
