This is just about consistency of seating depth using different priming tools. He primed 20 cases and measured the variance for each, and totaled for the 20 to get the total variance numbers.Does primer weight factor into all of this as well?
I'm with you K22. I've used my Sinclair tool for 25 + years and am happy with it. I uniform the primer pockets to .124. Then seat by feel. I have adjusted the tool to give me good crush feel and .008 depth. I also clean the residue out of the pockets before seating a new primer.I have used the Sinclair tool for both small and large rifle priming operations for well over 20 years now and have been completely 100% satisfied with them. They are extremely durable and easy to use. For me, they are well worth the investment.
However, I seat by feel which seems to work quite well for me. I do uniform the primer pockets with the Sinclair tool, but I am not sure that it makes a difference on target or least I haven't been able to detect a difference between uniformed and non-uniformed pockets. However, being slightly analI continued to uniform the pockets.
I try to do things that would work at a group match, where there is limited time to do things like reloading and barrel cleaning. I have been fortunate to have been around and spoken with many top shooters and most of the short range group shooters that I can think of (in fact all) seat by feel, and shoot very well that way. The big issues are staying in tune as ambient conditions change, and reading wind flags. This kind of reminds me of a conversation that I was having today in which I reminded a friend that there is no rifle tracking trophy, and that what track the best may not shoot the best. If a thing works, I leave it alone, so that I can concentrate on the things that I know need improvement. If consistency is the goal, why not consider the K&M primer gauge?
Me too, I have always forever, cleaned the pockets before seating primers. The Sinclair uniform tool make cleaning the pockets really easy.I'm with you K22. Nope, but from what I have seen it should be easy to drill and tap the handle of the newest model to give the same adjustable stop that mine has.@BoydAllen - do you have any extra Sinclair priming tools for sale?
The tests were for one thing, seating depth.Same seating depths from case head. All kinds of crush values..
No primer height column
I can confirm that as I added one to mine many years ago.Nope, butrom what I have seen it should be easy to drill and tap the handle of the newest model to give the same adjustable stop that mine has.
