If you could only own one rifle?

Like the title says, if you could have only one rifle what would it be?

Mine would be my win model 70 in 280rem. It has been such a reliable gun and can do just about anything. There is ample brass, bullets and powder options. Plus I bought it at age 11 with lawn mowing money. I've had it for 27 years with not a single issue .

Iron Brigade Armory Super Grade .308
Super accurate-well under 1/2” with Black Hills ammo-even less with hand loads.

30-06, maybe this one.

Zombie thread but fun. If the day ever came that I could only own one I’d hate to see what society has become.

For me, it would be dependent on where I lived and what my needs were. Here in Arizona I’d probably choose. 6.5x47, if I still lived in Alaska it would be a 338 win mag, overkill for 90% of what you would need it for but id be glad I had it if I came haven’t face with grouchy brown bear. If I was stuck in a metropolis I’d probably have a 10/22 or AR.

It’s a broad question. Ask me again in a week and you’ll probably get totally different answers.

Good time to revisit this thought. If the law said I could only own one, it would have to be an AR because it’s lite and I can still carry a bunch of ammo as I’m hiding out in the woods. Yup! “They” would be after me for defending my Constitutional Rights. Same reason the Army liked them.

Of the rifles I have my Win M70 Sporter ( circa 1987) is my favorite. It fits me the best. Of the cartridges I own my favorite is the 7mm Weatherby mag.

For hunting win model70 in 300 HH or a browning safari grade in 308 NM, a FN made rifle. It’s my most accurate hunting rifle by far.

DID have a BSA Martini for a few days. Shooting buddy had one and when he died, I went up to his house and got ALL his guns before the VULTUERS got their hands on them!!

Found it in the custom-made wooden case, under his wood working bench with the lid open and covered in dirt and saw dust.
Scooped it up, brought it home, turned the air hose on it and cleaned the crap, off of it. Found some rust on the outside of the barrel but the bore was fine.
Some oil and steel wool made it presentable again. Should have kept it for myself!! Use to use it for shooting rats from under his goose house.
That thing HAD to weigh something like 100 pounds and was deadly accurate.:cool: Sold it to one of the rim fire shooters at the range. Even had a Unertl 10 power scope on it.

Back when NY was outlawing everything...(the first time) my LEO buddies all asked me why I was not buying an AR. I said "My single shot is fine". They sneered and giggled. Then I said "I'll just use mine, then use yours...". No more sneering. Beware the guy who knows how to shoot.
