If you could only go to 1 camp.

Any of you guys that had air/smallbore kids might be able to help. CMP puts on a week 3p camp, my son did it last year and was great intro. This year we are looking at the 3.5 day CMP standing camp for air, or the NRA week advanced smallbore camp. If any of you have sent kids to camp or you have any suggestions. Even what you thought about the camps. I think we are leaning NRA smallbore, but never delt with the NRA much, but what we did with the CMP was very positive. What are you thoughts Thanks.

Check out the Appleseed Project. They put on a great weekend training session that is very family-oriented. Just about everyone is shooting 22LR.

With great respect to what Revere and Appleseed are accomplishing, the kind of camps that Paula will probably be needing to take her son to are fairly well beyond the scope, time constraints, and goals of those two organizations.

Not a judgement, and certainly not a criticism, but a reality nonetheless.

I agree with the last 2 posters, smallbore forum is the place to ask this question.
Thank you for being a good mom!

I think targettalk would be a great place for this question too. With any luck jhmartin will reply. If he does, he will offer up very sound advice. Not many people will know more about junior shooters than Joel.

It depends on your goals and current skill level. For any junior that is interested in shooting in college keep in mind that they need to shoot both air rifle (international standing not 3P) and smallbore 3P. With this in mind, I would suggest that you choose based on what you need to improve most. From personal observation, there are lots of good air rifle shooters but not nearly as many good smallbore shooters.
Also, if collegiate shooting is your goal, go to as many actual matches as you can, the bigger the better. With this in mind, if your resources are limited and you have to choose only one thing to do, go to the USA Shooting National championships.
This and the Junior Olympic Shooting Championships are the 2 events that any junior should participate in if possible.

If I was taking Juniors to do anything Smallbore, I would probably take them to Perry. There's a great air rifle range for them to practice on, lots of amenities in Port Clinton, and the amusement park out at Cedar Point just east of Perry. Also, last year they had a pretty good showing, and the CMP is really starting to nail down everything they need to do to run smoothly.

Don't know if you want to deal with the wind and rain, however. But, being on post, and the services in Port Clinton will always bring me back.
Good Luck, Brady
