Inletting a Kestros BR for a Neuvo AL. I refused to move the main vice... so this was my setup to cut the tapered area for the tang.

Not to be insulting, but remove the vise and replace several times. Literally, this will be a 5 minute or less job to indicate it back in. Practice will make you perfect at doing this. Good luck!

Buddy of mine has two self centering vices mounted to a piece of steel, the piece of steel clamps in his table mounted vice and he uses the two self centering to do his stock work.

Does it have enough travel to hog out a barrel channel? Just wondering, I would like to replace my BP Clone to have more space if a mill that size would work.

Yes.

I locate the trigger position first, then locate where the rear action screw will be and put in a .250 pilot hole. From the rear action screw, I do a cut the width of the square tang (before it angles to the sides of the action) and take that cut forward to where the face of the action will be. Then move to where the sides of the action will be and take those cuts back to where the sides start their angle to the rear flat of the tang and stop. At this point all that's left is the taper to the back of the tang on each side. The barrel channel gets done last.

Kind of a bass-ackwards way of doing it for a real machinist, I know. But it makes sense in my brain. Plus, the pucker factor isn't near as intense. Still high...but manageable.

Here is my inlet fixture I made, Don't laugh, It actually works well. It has some foam rubber glued on to it so it doesn't damage the stock. And I can add another vise to the rear if needed. If you ever have the time, Look at Doan Trevors stock fixtures he made, He has several cool fixtures he made that are definitely thinking outside the box.
