If I were to build a 25?

Agree with Snert….I built a 250AI 20 years ago. 250-3000 brass was easier to find then. I was sold on cartridge after reading the Sierra “bio” about it. Mine is a hunting rig and is very accurate. Running Hornady 100g Innerloc. Wyoming antelope do not like it…nor the head shot cow elk.

Best answer so far but then again I'm maybe just a little biased. Second best answer is 25 Creedmoor but again I'm maybe a little biased on that one too.

My 25 SAUM w/RL26 134 ELD-M out of a Bartlein 22in tube is right at 3200

The 25 CM I'm having built will shoot the same bullet and use the same powder except this one will have a Proof CF barrel also at 22in and I'm thinking with a little luck it'll come in somewhere right around 2900 but only time will tell.

Go 25SAUM Improved by @WSMNUT / Zack at Old Dominion Custom Rifles. I love mine. Have a hunting load with 101LRXs running 3600 with no pressure and a load running 133LRHs at 3450 with no pressure. The target leads I've ran 135s at 3500 but lost some primer pockets.

I have a 25x47 and a 25 Creedmoor. Love quarter bore rounds

@Philly,

I guess the first question is wether you want to go with a standard bolt (.473") or a magnum bolt (.531").

If you're looking at the standard bolt face, with the heavy bullets I'd be looking at the 25X47, and 25 Souper.
I will never own one, but yes the 25CM is another option.
While the 250 Savage AI is appealing, it's a lower pressure cartridge and may not get the velocities you are looking for.

If you're open to the magnum bolt face, it opens you up to the 25 WSSM, 25 PRC, 25 RSAUM, and 25 WSM.
All would push a heavy well.

Be aware also that the heavy 25 caliber bullets are long!
So you have to not only look at the magazine being long enough, but the ejection port also should you need to extract a live round.

After a lot of contemplation on a more fuel efficient case for varmint weight bullets than my 25-06, I narrowed choices down to 250 AI and 25 Creedmoor. I chose the 25 Creedmoor path for premium brass availability as well as readily available dies. I have no interest in grinding the axe either for or against the Creedmoor and its marketing history. What I will say is that the case capacity makes for a fine coyote cartridge with a 9 or 10 twist and lighter varmint bullets and yet makes for a handy deer cartridge shooting up to 115 grain bullets. I have no doubt the 250 AI, 257 Roberts (and AI version), 25x47 and others would be fine choices for you as well. Good luck with your decision!

I am very close to making the same decision. If it didn't have CM after the 25 it would be more popular. I have it down to 25CM or 25souper. Has anyone tried a 25xc, I bet that will be here shortly, if not already.

Hello all-knowing accurate shooters! I have a question. I have a 25-06 AI that I recently built (haven’t shot yet, waiting on bottom metal). But I’m wanting a short action 25. I’d like to use the heavies. I’m a sucker for the AI’s but not opposed to going standard. I do have 6.5x47 brass that I could use if I go that way but the creedmoor is getting pretty popular. The 250 savage AI seems really attractive to me s well. I’ll be shooting from a 7 twist barrel. I’d like some input, experience, knowledge or thoughts on what cartridge everyone is having the best results with. It’s probably a wash but maybe one outshines the others. What say you? As always, thanks for the input.
Since you have a 25-06 AI and want a short action, my choice would be easy. If you like accuracy, 25x47L with a 110 BIB is hard to beat.

The one with the CM on it would give someone down the line the option to use factory ammo if that’s ever a consideration.
KM, you are sure right on that. And there is some pretty good ammo being produced, with more coming. I am curious how much or the PRS group will be shooting the 25 in a year or two. I think that group is pretty fast to adopt new ideas if they are any good.

I don't shoot PRS, but I know a few that do. They are already on board with the 25x47. They will sacrifice some speed over the CM to reduce recoil and see their hits. Some of them are running in the 2550-2750 range. Excess case capacity isn't a good thing for precision anyway and barrel life is extended with those low velocities.
