IDOD & Donuts....?

I have a lot of brass that I received with a gun I purchased. I would like to re-turn the necks but the existing donuts are blocking the way of the turning mandrel. My expanding mandrel won't push them to the outside far enough either.........SO.........I have a friend who has an IDOD machine. Have they been used successfully for removing existing donuts.......I would like to salvage this brass to use in matches if I can.....If not....No Big Deal................Thank You for your input.

Regards
Rick

The IDOD should be perfect for what you want to do, It will cut out the donuts and turn the outside atcthe same time. Or you can order a K&M carbide cutting turning mandrel.

Just order an inside neck reamer and cut them out.
Trying to avoid dipping into the wallet to try to fix this brass. I don't mind donuts in 6ppc brass, just want to get a little use out of this stuff if I can....But it needs some rejuvenating....LOL.....Anyway, thanks for the suggestion...

The ID/OD site recommends different equipment/settings for O/F brass versus new brass. One of the reasons I never pursued purchase of the device.

The K&M carbide dies have provided decent but not perfect removal of donuts. When used with the turner and decent lube on the mandrel/turner, I wasn't unhappy.

Rick !! what press are you using with that mandrel ?? My Rock
Chucker never failed to push past anything......I little tip from a guy
that never lets a bad idea go to waste......I once made a donut cutting
mandrel from a rat tail file ?? And I was not drinking at the time.....LOL

I am using my " utility " Rockchucker as well. The mandrel pushes through just fine. I think it just may be a bit small to push them out enough to stay out so the turning mandrel will fit.......Thanks for the input and idea Fuj......Yeah.....You Were Drinkin'.....LOL

If attempting to ream the donut out of the case the neck needs to be fully supported from the outside . If not, the brass will just push away from the reamer. A full length die, with the correct custom diameter reamer will work. A much better solution for me, was to bore out the donut, again with the case fully supported. Making Waldog cases will make you put on your thinking cap. Not for the faint of heart. Lol.

The only different equipment would possibly be a different sized case holder. No other settings or equipment would need to be changed...

Bryan,

At $65 each, the cost is not inconsequential if you have more than a few cartridges to do. I'm not a processing business, so it makes a difference.
