Identify this stock wood???

sure, that's maple, black maple maybe, or a soft maple, like red maple, sometimes called ambrosia maple (with mixed colors), but more likely hard sugar maple. The birdseye is just the result of this fast growing tree getting a chance to grow old in cramped quarters (lots new branches looking to find the sunlight, then getting grown over, and over, Yours looks like burl wood,

I would call it quilted, or tortoise shell figure. Flatsawn curly figure. Beautiful piece. If it was quartersawn it would show the classic "curly" figure.
I bought that stock ($25.00) at a 1000 table gun show when Fagen stock were popular!!! Somebody had put a coat of lacquer on it without sanding it down!! The stock never had an action in it!!! I angle cut the forearm and double doled in a rose wood fore accent!!! Started sanding off the lacquer at the forearm working back to the butt! Was going to put my 7-08, 700 VS action in it but got distracted after picking up a 25-06 at a great price!!! Worked with 25-06 and put the 7-08 project on the back burner!!! I sold the 7-08 a couple years later!!

Now that I'm retired, I'm going to get a 700 SA receiver within the next year hopefully at a gun show!!! Yeah, after 40 years of 100s of shows, I know how to work them and know what to look for, ie prefix on SN!! I'm thinking 6-250AI or wildcat 257 Creedmore AI with 27.5" light target or Palma profile!!! These wildcats will allow me to stay slightly under max bore using PO Ackley data allowing longer BBL life while achieving maximum MV!!! The build will be heavy for caliber bullets!!! My final design will be weighed on using statistical data and probability analysis!!!
