IBS vs NBRSA long range rules ?

What is the difference between the rules? I Have read thru both sets of rules a few times. The only thing I see is in NBRSA light gun you can use a mechanical rear rest and in IBS light gun you must use a bag. At a NBRSA match you shoot 3 targets per gun. I am not sure I understand how many targets you shoot at a IBS match. I have no dog in this hunt, I just want to understand the nuances of both. When I am able I would like to travel to shoot in either.

To simplify Stan's post IBS 1000 YD matches have options for the format as to number of targets but we always shoot five-shot LG and ten-shot HG no matter the match format.
The 1000 Yard Nationals format is, defined by the rules, to shoot three target aggs for both LG & HG with no shoot-offs.
IBS 600 Yard matches use four targets for each class except that the Nationals is eight targets for each class.
Not sure on NBRSA LR but IBS now has Tactical & Factory Class available as well. It is my understanding (and could be wrong) that these two classes follow the LG formats in each distance.
Bottom line is if you show up for an IBS LR match have plenty of ammo. Most clubs shoot a complete match on Saturday and another on Sunday.

IBS 600 shoots 5 shots each target, 4 targets per match for LG and HG. The nationals is double the targets.

IBS 1k shoots 5 shots LG and 10 shots HG and depends on format how many targets. Nationals is minimum of 3 target agg, 2021 was 4 target agg.

I don’t know much about NBRSA but I’m sure it’s similar with the main exception being they shoot 10 shots in HG in both 600 and 1k.

Heavy gun equipment I think both are the same. Light gun equipment IBS is a bit more restricted than NBRSA, so you'll want to read up on that if you want to travel to both with one setup. You found the one difference in your OP, the other I know of is about side contact in front, trapped vs. not trapped. Other than that both have a 17lb. limit for both yardage. NBRSA does shoot 10 shot heavy at the 600 yardage, which IBS shoots 5 at 600, but 10 at 1,000.

Does IBS allow non-members to shoot in their match?

NBRSA shoots the same format for both 600 and 1000 yds. Each day of a match they shoot three LG and three HG targets. 5 shot groups for LG and 10 for HG.

The biggest difference is in the relay format. NBRSA used to have each relay shoot all their targets, 3 LG and 3 HG, in one sitting from the same bench. Then they would go to the pits and the next relay would shoot all their targets for the day.

Lately NBRSA has been breaking up LG and HG, meaning each relay shoots three LG, goes to the pits, and then comes back to shoot three HG.

IBS 1000 yd matches at Deep Creek shoot four targets a day, two LG and two HG. Each relay changes benches after each individual target is shot. Only ONE target is shot, then you swap.
