IBS rules and Farley front rests.

JRS, Sounds but,it won't work. Your side plates attach to the hold down bars. I milled out the front bar to lower the fore end stop attachment plate. Now everything is legal........ jim
Didn't realize that Jim. I don't own a SEB rest. Glad it works for you now :)

Johara,
Can you tell me when did you get your NEO?
The newer rests have thicker bags, either with the 3 pcs or 1 pc bag.
I also curious to see what you did on the stopper / bag retainer, probably a photo?

Seb, i was tired of all legal questions and the way the bags trap the stock. Nobody was saying any thing about that. The fix was to mill out the metal thickness of .125 x 2" wide Stainless steel and drill and counter sink the center screw and add a screw on each side of the center screw. Add a delrin fore end stop proper distance and last remove the level and put the screw back in.... jim

Thanks you for your time Jim.

However remember that, regardless my newer bags are thicker than ever, it is the retainer plates that hold the front/bottom bag, not the stopper assy or the leveler. My stopper & leveler are NOT intended to hold the front bag in anyway...it is just the way it is the stopper & leveler are attached/secured on the retainer plates.
Proof is, if you remove the (front & rear) retainer plates and use the stopper assy & leveler 'to hold' the front bag, it won't work.
So, I don't agree with you if the stopper & leveler are considered as metal or retainer or any part of the rest that hold the front bag. Because they in fact don't.

No, I'm not defending here.
It is different between "issue" and (real) issue, or fact.
I have no problem to change my stopper & leveler design (i.e. how they are attached on the rest top) if my rests (i.e. the top & bag assy) are illegal to use in any registered matches & sanctioning bodies.

If someone were DQ'ed or protested using my front rest(s), in any registered matches, please let us know. It will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
seb.

Sorry, the thread is about IBS & FARLEY rest.
I also have a belief that Farley rests are legal to use in any registered matches. Because I have shot some big/registered matches in the USA & Australia, although not for many-many times, never once I seen or heard someone were protested or DQ'ed using a Farley.

Proof me wrong here.

Something is legal -when it fully satisfies the rules.
If competition in the US was a trial, with precedence to declare & argue for, then there is plenty to 'prove' completely legal(by my definition), and for decades.

SEB, you might get an independent peer review on your past & present rest/bag combos.
-Declare those specifically NOT meeting the rule.
-Declare those specifically meeting the rule.
This based on an open & honest effort

Your 'belief that Farley rests are legal to use in any registered matches' is weak basis to declare anything on. I assure you some past farley/bag combos do not satify the rule as written for IBS 1kyd. Do you understand this?
It is just as probable that some of your earlier rests, being so close to Farley's design, have failed to meet the rule in combination with certain bags. Right?
None of this is your fault, nor reflects badly on your rests, so there is no loss in consideration of it. In fact, we might all learn a thing or two here.

I am shooting the IBS 600 at stLouis this weekend and was told by the match director to put a 1/4 shim under my front bag on my Farley to avoid any problems with any rulebook junkies. It took only a few minutes to fix it and doesn't look like it hurts the stability, I did add sand to tighten it up.

Seb, If the screw goes through it and screws in to the rest, it is part of the retainer. If removed and the screw put back init is legal.Even Williamsport makes you remove the stop and level to be legal, same rule. The first thing in curing a problem is admitting you have a problem..........jim

Boy am I glad that F-Class rules aren't as anal as the IBS rules. My NEO works great for F-Class 1000 yard competition.

For someone who does not compete in BR and who has called it a spectacle sport, why do you have such a keen interest in the rest/rules?
I call it a spectacle rather than a sport. I call on rules to demonstrate this, and with no personal stake in it.
Mine is an independent view.

but at the same time have repeatedly stated you are a non-competent and never will.
I've yet to post on my competence. :P I merely declared that I do not compete. Just not in my cards..

So why all the input and opinion?
It's not my motivation to offend with input and opinion.
But within an open forum, YOU might discriminate presented reasoning more so than poster status.
Or not,, it won't change MY status or views either way.

Do you consider my reasoning unqualified because I don't compete?

Had it explained to me once again ::)

"Top of container would be the highest part of the rest top the bag is sitting on. The hold down bar would be the highest part of this area on the rests in question. Both are recognized as legal rests per the rule as stated".

JRS, yes the parts that contain the bag, the tension ears would also come into play. I think instead of beating it around here on the forum let the ones that can clear it up hash it around. So I shot an email to the IBS long range chairman and maybe the they can clear it up,by the winter meeting...... jim

If the side tension plates are brought into the measurement equation, Hart, Sinclair, SEB, etc, etc, etc, would all be illegal for use. If this is the case, any and all records set/broken would have to be taken away from the shooter. I believe we are all guilty of over analyzing this.

Jim, I will be glad to hear the meeting result.
Proof me wrong here if my current NEO rest are not legal to use. I will be glad to make an open apology to you & mikecr if the rest is clarified not legal, because I noticed that only two of you that made the "issue".
Only give the chairman correct info/data, not the out of date one.
