Looking for America
I’ve been looking for America, can you tell me where She’s gone?
Our parents gave Her to us, entrusting all to keep Her strong.
They worked so hard to build Her, as did all who came before.
I’m sure She’s hiding somewhere between Her glistening windswept shores.
There are those among us, who fail to see the promise of Her light,
Thinking only of themselves it seems, with no regard for what is right.
The beauty of Her natural wonders are still here for all to see,
Now a callous few with so much power try to hide Her heart from me.
America I feel your pain, please show me where you’ve gone,
Raise your voice like rolling thunder, and tell them what they’ve done is wrong.
Clear their minds and open their eyes so your promise they may see.
Life, liberty and happiness in the land of the brave and free.
Your Founders were pure of heart, bound by a common cause.
They drafted the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and our basic common laws.
There was diversity among them, yet they all found the common ground,
Where they forged a righteous nation where freedom and liberty are found.
And so, my fellow Americans, be mindful when your vote is cast,
Your choices will have consequences which are evident in our past.
Choose those with true hearts and calloused hands in which to place your trust,
For if hard work and truth have formed them, their leadership will be just.
America, I hear the cries of your fallen Patriots, who call from distant shores,
Who laid down their lives for freedom’s sake to keep tyranny from our door.
Keep them in your hearts my friends for we are forever in their debt.
Their sacred sacrifice leads us down the path our Founding Fathers set.
How fortunate are we all and how humble we all should be,
To live our lives in this glorious land where all are truly free.
I went looking for America from sea to shining sea,
And found Her deep within the hearts of Patriots like you and me.
