I would like to watch a match

I am not a benchrest shooter but I love to shoot and tinker with rifles. I have really enjoyed reading the posts on this forum and have used a lot of the technical info to better my humble rifles. I read the post on bringing newcomers to the sport and I would love to go and watch a match,BR, F-class etc.) Do I just call our local club and find out the schedule and show up and watch or are there any rules against that? I live in Memphis, Tn so any help or advice on this subject would be helpful.

I was just like you guys this past summer. I decided to go to a match to see what was going on. I checked out the NRA and IBS websites and looked to see when and where the shoots were and what the various disciplines involved. I decided that the 600 yard benchrest interested me most and was lucky to find that Oak Ridge had monthly shoots during the summer only about an hour's drive from the house. To make a long story short, I went to three shoots, watched and took pictures, asked questions, was impressed with the help from the competitors and built a rifle in the Fall and now am much shorter on cash but ready to shoot the shoots in 2008. Beware, it's addictive.

I have emailed a friend at MSSA and asked that he take a look at this thread. Hopefully, Don or JC will see it as well. There is a very active F class/Prone club in Memphis,MSSA). Unfortunately, their website is down.

You can also shoot F class at AEDC, Tullahoma TN. It's about 90 minutes south of Nashville, but there are quicker ways to get there from Memphis then I40 to I24.

I live In Memphis and am a Member of of the Memphis Sport Shooting ASSn , MSSA ) Here at the Memphis range we shoot a 3X600 yard match once a month. Its ussually on a sunday.

There are also matches at Camp Robinson Arkansas witch is North Little Rock. There next Prone Match not till March. They ussually shoot at 1000 yards but the first two are at 600 yards this year. There are plenty other locations in the area And Ive been known to pop up 10 hour drive one way from my house just to shoot for the weekend. Heck you only live once you better get it while you can, my eye sight is getting worse every year.

I see Aixen's post is from awhile ago so he may not respond but we would be glad to have you abord and we REALLY like to talk about guns too so if you want to meet some very like minded folks and want to send some lead down range give me a PM And ill hook you up best I can. Ill even loan you a gun to shoot F class to try it.

Sorry I haven't replied back sooner. I was just in memphis this past weekend and was trying to find mssa. I didn't have any luck. I will try to go over there again soon. I would like to try to see the one at little rock also. Where can i look to get the schedules for both places?

Once you are there you can use mapquest for exact directions...it is east of Memphis aprox 20mi...use esit 20!!! Hope this helps...Roger
