I was out looking for jasper this morning and found …l

Reminds me of a Copperhead about 4-feet long my Mother found curled up on the toilet seat lid in the bathroom/Laundry room out at our old farm. She closed the door and went across the road to the neighbors place. Two of the boys were in their early twenties. They came over, but snake was gone. Two days later, the gentleman she had mowing the yard mowed; and knocked the vent off. Snake was back on the lid again. She got the boys, and they came over with a 4lb baby sledge and a six-foot pole with an eyelet on the end and binder twine for a lasso.
One boy roped the snake, and they took it out to the driveway. They stretched Mr Snake out straight, and one held the small end. They older one read to him out of the Good Book (aka baby sledge), Chapter and Verse. A year later she sold the farm and moved into an assisted living facility near our Church.
A year after that, I drove my old XK-8 rag top back to visit. I stopped to gas up, and the boys were walking out of the station. They look at my Idaho plates, and the one says "you must be Rose's boy Richard...". I said yes, and they told me the story of the snake. Bad thing about Copperheads, they got no rattles. They just bite you.

Last year I was in my garage working on my reloading bench. I went to the other side to grab something when I heard the rattle that I knew exactly what it was.
I had bought a snake grabber while back as one year we had 4 at my house. Well worth the $30 i spent on it.
People on next door are always “relocate them”. Sure where do you live I’ll bring it over.
Yeah I relocated its head from body and I think that one got me banned or suspended from next door lol.
Never went back too many people in fairy tale lands

If you ever get struck by any Pit Viper, you will not won’t to repeat the experience.
When I was eleven, in the Boy Scouts, we went on a camping trip to Dam B in east Texas. We were playing around on a log pileup, and a big Water Moccasin struck me on the shin. It was a glancing strike, one fang put a big scratch on my lower leg. But the venom got in.

They rushed me to a hospital in Kounze, where I was a ministered an anti-venom treatment.
But my lower leg still swoll up like a balloon, and the pain was about a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.

That snake you shot could easily kill you.

Dang…glad he didn’t get you. I just stepped on this copperhead as I was taking out the trash. Dark enough outside I didn’t see him. Felt something slap my leg….apparently I stepped on his head. He slithered under my wife’s car. Had her back up and smashed his head. Was just about to take the dogs out and they’d have been right on top of him. Got lucky.
