I'd say 358win is worth a look. The option to play around with 357 pistol bullets adds a whole new side of things. But still you still have the ability to shoot 358 rifle bullets.
Morelia6 -A grendel/x39 based case was considered but I have a .308 bolt face so would require a new bolt or heavy modification
I built a 450 Marlin bolt rifle, I didn't go 458x2 because it can be chambered in sub 45 caliber magnum actions. The belt on the 50 is proprietary.458x2 or the 450 Hornady - the same thing in a factory case. Works well. Mind you, I lost my shades with the recoil on the first shot in a modified 303 No4. Landed in the nettles behind me. Wicked bush gun though - 18in barrel. I eventually sold it to a guy who did home kill butchery, so it's probably shot a lot of beef by now.
My first thought.Get yourself a good old fashioned 45-70. Henry makes some fine repeaters. That cartridge will do everything you want.
I live in a state that doesn't allow purchase of new semi auto firearms or magazines over 10 rounds. 5.56 and grendel magazines are my options350 Rem mag? 338 Federal? 350 Legend? , 450 Bushmaster? 450 Hornady? 500 S+W?
Plenty of options without wildcatting.
Old thread but I thought I’d comment on this question for the benefit of others, I know the OP has gone missing but…. I’ve been using a 21st century universal bushing neck die quite a bit, that combined with 4-5 mandrels in every caliber I use have been getting more and more use. The neck die is a great product, very handy. If you’re necking up or down both are handy. I have a few cartridges based on the 6.5x47, 222 and 6BR cases, these Are great for that. They offer quite a few mandrels and bushing for the die.many options for a universal necking die or something I could use until I get custom dies?? Any other options welcomed needs to be .308 bolt face.
I have a set also. I agree they work great.Old thread but I thought I’d comment on this question for the benefit of others, I know the OP has gone missing but….
