These days, you can spend that much ($12) on just three gallons of gas, or a movie ticket and popcorn!

I have paid $30 plus for books to read only to find more and better info here!

I understand this is a business.... but 3 of the threads on the 1st page are about donating money.

I have been on a lot of forums (watersports, homebrewing, shooting) and this is by far the most ... ummm .... commercial feeling.

Hang around a while. This ain't your average watersports forum! There is more information on this site regarding precision shooting than anywhere else on the web. All this information takes $$ to keep going. If you don't think there is value here, you are welcome to not donate.

I understand your concerns that the threads may be off-putting, particularly for a new visitor. Do consider that, unlike most forums, this site has an active Blog with new content 365 days a year. In addition, we offer very active free classifieds, and we are constantly on the look-out for good deals for our members. We do honest, no-BS product testing -- with skilled trigger pullers. Along with the Daily Bulletin of course is the main AccurateShooter.com website, which has hundreds of articles, with content provided, in many cases, by champion shooters. Then there are our Cartridge Guides -- and you won't find anything like that anywhere else on the web. Why -- because it takes about 100 man-hours to produce a Cartridge Guide, including field testing. I think if you start digging into the main site, you'll find a wealth of information, and you'll see the value. Start here: http://www.accurateshooter.com/articles/

There is no book or movie on the market that provides this information, plus will walk you through any issues you have!

I have paid $30 dollars for a book and didn't learn anything more than I already knew! Plus there were no phone numbers or contacts to call to clarify anything!

You are right.... Hardly any bikini photos here. :)

Forum Boss,
Thanks for the tips. I do enjoy the content on this site. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer to be tricked out of my money (or finding true value) vs being told by everyone that I am cheap for not contributing.
The homebrew site that I read (and have donated to multiple times) has 110k members and provides a lot of extra services. Lots of product giveaways, recipe databases, local club listings, etc.... It provides excellent value. Probably have my bar set pretty high.
I am new here in the last year and have already stopped replying to threads on here because I am told that my opinion is stupid. After following the links at the bottom of the replies, I realize that the thread is started by a retailer intent on pushing a product (or am immediately hit in the inbox with marketing).

My 2c. Don't mean to ruffle any feathers. I hope to push thru and get value from this site.

NO, but there was a guy here this fall selling a rifle to pay for his wife's breast enlargements!

I started this post, and have mixed feelings about how it has gone. Maybe I should have kept my feelings private, but there are other members here who are also actively encouraging more site donations. We see the value in this site, and wish for it to continue long into the future.

I am not a retailer selling here. I have bought items from retailers who advertise here, but not through the free classifieds. I do cruise the classifieds daily for bargains and tire kicking. This is a free site, you don't have to donate as the Forum Boss noted above. I was amember for a while before becoming a donor too. My issue is with those forum members actively promoting or selling through their signature line that are not donors to the site.

Welcome to the forum, I hope you see the value provided and decide to contribute in the future.

Interesting: You may have started out in a bad situation. Looks like you were looking for a good deer hunting trip, maybe, Texas is the most expensive place to go deer hunting and I have been a "few" times as I can't afford to go the whole season! But it's probably the best hunting you will do! You were recieving first class prices! Example: I hunted in a club which cost $1,000 per day per person, plus game fees. I paid $100 per day as a helper! I also was not allowed to shoot the preminum deer! I could shoot all the hogs I could see!

However, this site carries a wealth of information from A to Z, equipment, hunting trips, and classifieds! Some start cheap, some are the most expensive in the sport! You choose what area satisfies you and make it usefull to fit your needs! I don't recall any opinions be called "stupid", but most of us try to explain concerns to correct issues or lead people in the right direction.

As stated many times by me. I have learn more here than anywhere else on the net, or with any books I have bought! JMO, and many others have stated the same! Hopefully you will find the info you are looking for, it will be here somewhere! Look at the post count by many! It's not all BS, 90% of the post are good info!

Disagree. If you believe it, scream it.

BUT... the best way for a sight to stay around is to grow its membership. The stickys on the forum page for donations, I understand. 3 user-started donation threads on the 1st page out of the 13 visable will drive new members away. "I simply refuse", "How to make a site donation", "What's it worth to you".

I see how a new member would feel as per your statement above. Some of us have been around awhile!

Give the site a chance, Thousands have!

Gotta be careful of the Effendude-dude, he is a rabble-rouser of the first degree ;D

I assure you, you will see 99.9% more positives vs <.1% negatives on this site!

I was called that by a buddy on the first page. Long story.... But I will wear the label proudly!

I think this thread has served its purpose and run its course. We've now got a better system for identifying current advertsing vendors -- they'll be labeled "Site Sponsors". I appreciate those who have shown their loyalty to the site and encouraged others to donate. Thanks effendude and others...

But I think we'll give this thread a rest for a while. I don't want potential new members to feel pressured to donate. Although I know there are quite a few sites where a paid subscription is required for access to the buy/sell area. The presence of free classifieds should be factored in when somebody considers whether to donate. I have a friend who moderates a popular 4X4 offroading site. People have to pay $30/year to buy or sell products! It is my desire to maintain free listings as a service to Forum members.
