Might be old news, but I read today that lawyers have convinced a bunch of the parents from the Sandy Hook school shooting to sue Bushmaster. Personally I think it just another version of ambulance chasers looking for a payday, but who knows.. This crap just burns my butt..

NEW YORK (CNNMoney)

Parents of 9 children killed at the mass shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary School, along with one teacher who survived, are suing the businesses behind the Bushmaster rifle, which was used in the massacre.

The lawsuit was filed one day after the second anniversary of the killings.

Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, the law firm that is representing the families, announced Monday that it has filed suit against Camfour, a gun distributor, and Riverview Gun Sales, as well as the Freedom Group, the company that owns Bushmaster.

The lawsuit, filed in Superior Court in Bridgeport, Conn., pointed out that the numerous lives were lost in just 264 seconds and was possible because of the shooter's weapon of choice: The Bushmaster AR-15 rifle.

The rifle, which was used to kill 20 first-grade students and six adults in Newtown on December 14, 2012, should not have been entrusted to the general public because it is a military assault weapon that is unsuited for civilian use, according to the lawsuit.

"The AR-15 rifle, designed as a lightweight but fearsome combat weapon for troops in Vietnam, can expel 30 bullets in a matter of seconds, each of which is capable of piercing body armor and causing catastrophic injury," the suit claims.

"It has no place among Americans' handguns and hunting rifles."

Adam Lanza, the killer, was mentally unstable and used his mother's Bushmaster to kill her before he went on the rampage at the school, and then killed himself.

"The risk of a mentally unstable individual gaining access to an assault rifle and unleashing its military firepower on innocent civilians is not theoretical for Bushmaster. It's a fact," said Katie Mesner-Hage, of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, in the press release.

The law firm said the Bushmaster used in the Sandy Hook killings was purchased at Riverview, in East Windsor, in 2010.

The owner of Riverview was not immediately available to comment and phone messages to the Freedom Group and Camfour were not immediately returned. The Riverview web site currently lists the Bushmaster, and other assault rifles, for sale.

I just saw that, my fiance said "oh great so what they are going to start sueing knife makers now too like its the knifes fault".

This is interesting as I read that the long gun found at the scene was a shotgun in his trunk after he was killed. Fox and another station stated he did the killing with hi cap hand guns instead. So they are sueing the wrong people?

There will always be some parasite trial attorney looking for a potential big payout and the notoriety that goes along with it!! I bet it would be unbelieveable to find out how many attorneys/law firms have contacted those parents attempting to convince them to sue to 'make a point'!! Nothing gets more attention and pays millions like a good class action.

Now I am not an attorney/lawyer hater, just don't have use for any that go looking for 'emotions' to embellish their retirement portfolio. We all know that firearms are inherently designed to mame and kill innocent people on their own. Takes good design engineers to do it right!

After all, it is 'for the children'!

Riverview sells no firearms, an hasn't for almost two years... but don't let the truth interfere with a dramatic story!!

I heard/read he had an AR15 in the car but used a different gun(s) in the shooting?

They should sue the car maker, the dealer that sold his mom the car, the gas station where the fuel was purchased, the state for providing plates, along with anyone who ever serviced the vehicle for providing the transportation. ... makes about as much sense.

No body, no crime.

That would have nothing to do with this suit. Criminal law is "a crime has been committed and the suspect has committed this crime "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt". However, in a civil law suit, it is "damage has been done, and the defendant is responsible for the damage provable by a "preponderance of the evidence". This is a MUCH LOWER standard of "proof" than "beyond a reasonable doubt". Therefore civil litigation is, by definition, much more dangerous to our sport (guns) than any criminal event could ever hope to to be.. They can't legislate us out of existence, however, they can sue us so that it becomes unprofitable to operate and we go out of business DeFacto.

If you take this theory to it's logical conclusion are they going to sue the hospital where this kid was born for birthing a defective person and allowing him to live? Give me a break. Might as well sue ice cream manufacturers for making people FAT! dedogs

That's what is wrong with this country now, Everybody is sue happy!

No one wants to work for what they have when it is so easy to sue

Can I sue my wife because she MADE me gain 10 pounds by being a good cook?😳 The "victim" mentality is racing across our country. Watch out for the "police brutality" protesters. They want Law Enforcement guns, now, too.

Google or you tube "we need to talk about Sandy Hook" or "lets talk about Sandy Hook". They claim its a hoax set up by anti gunner's. Very interesting!!!

How can you just decide to sue 2 years later? This is as bad as the lady who sued McDonalds for burning herself on hot coffee.

Real, positive change in this country is not going to happen until we find a way to hold the press ACCOUNTABLE for their biased misrepresentation of the news. There is still a great deal of confusion about the events at Sandy Hook as witness some of the posts on this thread. And holding the press ACCOUNTABLE is like expecting world peace in my lifetime... it ain't ever gonna happen! :( :( :(

There is a "statute of limitations" for civil litigation to bring a suit. Usually they are in the vicinity of 2-3 years. They allow this time for "exploring" who and IF a suit should / could be brought.. Obviously, if in fact a suit has been brought, it was done within the time allotted in the limitation statute.
