I said I wasn't going to run a DBM, but.... (PTG bottom metal question)

Looks like I'm going to have to. With me being green in the reloading world, I didn't think about this. Once I acquired some Bergers, I figured out they can be loaded out further than the Hornady HPBTs I've been using. That's good. That allows me to place them in a more desirable place in the neck, BUT.... They're too long to load in the internal box mag. COAL at jam is 2.940. Box magazine length is approximately 2.875.

All that said, the rifle is a Howa 1500 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I like the looks of the PTG bottom metal. It seems that the general consensus of the Internet is PTG is no bueno though. It doesn't look like there's a whole lot of options for the Howa. PTG and Atlasworks. Is there anyone that's had experience with the PTG bottom metal? I like the looks of it and the latch better on the PTG than the AW bottom metal.

The PTG bottom metal I had on my savage worked well, just had to wait for it to arrive.

I’ve used the Atlasworks on several Howas without issue. If you prefer a low profile mag release, they will include one if you email and ask.

I couldn't seem to find one. Do you have to machine the bottom of the receiver? Howas magazines fit in a cutout in the receiver.

Yes, you need to machine the back of the mag cut in the receiver and the bolt stop.

Howa 1500 and Remington 700 mag boxes are nearly identical.
