I need some QL data if anybody wants to take the time

Just got my 33-28 nosler reamer in and should have my rifle back in 2 weeks JGS throated for berger 300 otms with a turn kneck. Just need help with starting charges 2800 to 2850Fps is my goal.
I have H1000,Retumbo, rl33,7828,rl26,8133 and maybe VV n570 to work with.
Dont have my dummy round available to measure but it should be around 3.5 to 3.7 and a 28" 1in9.3 bartlein barrel
Thanks

I'm making some "guesses" based on what you provided ... and it's not looking valid ... at least not to get to 2800-ish. Please provide (without the coded transmission):

Bullet (brand, grain, type, part #)
Cartridge Overall Length (need a number, not a range)
Actual Case Caliber (Is it .33 Nosler, or something else ... there's no "33-28" and no "reamer" entry)
Powders (I got that)
Barrel Length (I got that)

A little better organized detail here ... and I'm happy to help.

28 nosler necked up
Berger part #33109
I will have to call my Smith tomorrow just use 3.6 for over all length that is at the far end of what i have spec'd for my reamer

I'd bet N570 is going to be your best chance at getting to 2800 with reasonable pressures. Some faster burn rate and less bulky powders, like RL26, may get you there or maybe above 2800 but it'll probably be at some pretty high pressures.

I know the 28 Nosler case has a little more capacity than does their 33 Nosler but I think it's still less than say the 338 RUM case and 2800fps w/300's is no easy task for it. Even with a 28in tube getting to 2800 or 2800+ in a 33-28 Nosler w/300's will likely only be achieved with some pretty high pressures.

For a starting point I'd probably start with the top end 33 Nosler loads.

Yeah...I agree with B23. I'm working on a 338 Edge right now and 2800 to 2850 with the 300 OTM is a FULL case of LRT. That's with ADG brass at approx. 117gr H2O case capacity and a 3.94 OAL.

R26 or H1000 may get close, but I bet you'll be pushing >65ksi pressures.

Ok i see that you have a 140 berger in ther tell me how that relates to being necked up to .338.
Im an ignorant subject school me

I feel like something is "wrong" here. With those entering values, I get this error with every recalculation:

... and every powder shows dangerous pressure signs at really low velocities.

Anyway ... here are the first five powder, the last one is the same issue but I can only include six files (5 powders and the error screen).

Let me know if you'd like to try something different.

H1000 ... not enough velocity
1644932352034.png

Retumbo ... also low velocity before high pressure
1644932425304.png

Reloder 33 ... also low velocity near max pressure
1644932534877.png

Reloder 26 ... also low velocity at high pressure (I'm sensing a trend)

IMR 7828 ... same story

Yea data's not right somewere thats like win mag speeds i dont know thanks for your time anyways ill give it the ol'Roy Weatherbey treatment

Like Rusty, I used the .28 Nosler as the starting baseline (.33-28 Nosler not being in the QL database). Since these are manual entries, you'll want to double-check what has been input. Groove diameter and the Cross-sectional Bore Area are from the .33 Nosler.

Of the powders you have on hand, it looks like IMR 7828 (the regular version, not the SSC) is your best bet.

A crucial piece of missing information is the cartridge capacity of your .33-28. This print here uses the QL default of 97.0gr from the .28 Nosler. You need to verify that number before assuming this information is even remotely in the ball park.

The print here (using that 97.0gr case capacity) is at a 100% case fill. As you can see in the powder chart, a 104% compressed load will get you a bit under SAAMI max, and about 150 fps shy of your 2800 goal.

There are other powders that will get you better results.

I have a 30-28 and ran the 33-28 in Quickload. The "problem" is there isn't enough case capacity to get to peak pressure with some of those powders. It looks like you could get to around 2725 with H1000. N570 as suggested is the best. Quickload predicts you can get up as high as 2850 but that is a seriously compressed load and N570 does not compress well. N568 is reported to act like "N570 short cut" seems to me to be the ideal choice.

The case capacity should be around 101 to 102 grains for those who are asking. My 30-28 measures at 101.9

Like what powders

The powder chart I posted. The powders are ranked by velocity, after calculating up to a max pressure of 65,000 psi and no more than a 104% charge density.

Start at the top and work down.

For best velocity necked up ADG 28 Nosler brass will be your huckleberry. It has a little more case capacity than the other 28 Nosler brass.
