I need computer help

Periodically I lose the cursor on the screen. Thats
normal if the mouse battery goes flat. Replace the battery, no change.
Turn the computer off then back on and the cursor is there. This happens
daily. Put in a new power supply, it runs normal for a few days, then back to the
same problem. Bad power supply me thinks. Replace that, and back to normal
for about a month, then the same issue arises. I havent replaced the mouse.
Anyone have an idea??? LDS

I posed the question to google, and got a lot of info,
now when the problem arises to see if any of it works. LDS

For the power supply problem, check each and every power connection, make sure no frayed wires, all connectors are clean and tight, no loose pins in any connectors, no wires coming out of the connectors. You may have an intermittent connection at some point which are generally the most difficult to find.

So the possible list of causes is pretty broad. Assuming that it is a wireless mouse given that a battery is needed, I'd start with software driver issues. Check the manufacturers website and see if there is a driver update for that mouse. If it is a bluetooth wireless and a USB bluetooth dongle is providing the connection, pull the dongle and reseat it. If you've added other devices to the system, uninstall each of them (including the software drivers) to see if there is a driver conflict. The other path would be to replace the mouse. The issue could be the electronics/firmware in the mouse itself.

If it's a wired mouse....

I had a corded MS palm swell mouse with the same problem, would work sometimes then not. Cursor would lock up, which required restarting computer and then it would work again for who knows how long.

Now, I really liked this this particular mouse and had it for many years, so I fussed with it several times before I saw the problem, I had actually worn the outer sheath away, the inner sheath, and the insulation from the wires. When two wires touched, mouse locked up.

I like that particular mouse for my desktop, off to eBay I went and bought a lot with several dirt cheap, now have enough that will outlast me.

Probably want to look at one of those little cooling fan things that plugs into a usb port. Mine does that when it gets warm. Never hurts to do something to cool off the computer either, even if that is not what's doing it. They are cheap devices compared to a new computer......good luck.

I bought a wireless one and I had problems. For me the solution was to just get a new wired one that plugs into the back of the computer-No more problems so far and its been a few years. Gary

Sounds to me like the mouse is going to sleep to save power. It should do that if there's no change in position for a while, and it may take a second or few to awaken and resync.

Move the mouse, then wait several seconds. Then move it slowly, and see if it comes back (most people move it, then whip it around and give up.)

You might try shutting the mouse (rather than the computer) off and back on via the power switch on the underside.

Or if the driver is hanging, hitting a key on the keyboard may reawaken it.
