I Need A Rear Entry Action Wrench...

for a Tikka T3. Bolt lugs measure .905" wide. Is there one that Brownell's or Sinclair sells that would work for me? Which one, specifically, would it be?

You are gonna need more than that to get that barrel off. You will need a parting tool and a lathe. Make a cut in front of the receiver to the barrel. Those are by far the tightest barrels I have ever attempted to remove. I don't even try anymore before cutting them.

Thats good to know. Please tell me more. I have one to fit to a new Eliseo stock. Requires removing barrel and fitting a lug.

I just removed my first Tikka T3 .223 barrel the other day. It wasn't on any tighter than anything else factory I've played with. (Howas and Vangards are another subject.) I usually machine my own entry wrenches but decided against it on the Tikka because there was not much to the lugs on those actions. What I thought was worse is getting a good clamp on the barrel. They taper pretty quick away from the chamber end and my barrel vise does not go small enough to use on the skinny sporter taper. I had to clamp on the short bit of straight barrel sticking out of the action and ended up shinning up the bluing when it slipped once. I was going to do like what was mentioned above; cut a relief at the shoulder area, but I thought I'd try something else first. I didn't want to ruin the barrel because I wanted to sell it as a take off.(Will post soon). The T3 action has two flats on it that you could put a large crescent wrench on. :o While tempting, I did not use a crescent wrench, so everyone calm done. I did use a action wrench that had a flat side and I put another flat bar across the other side to tighten down on the flats of action. It worked very good. You have to be careful so you have the wrench tight enough not to smear the edges of the flats but not so tight you squash the thin action. Once you sense that you have just cracked the action from the shoulder, I would loosen the wrench just a little because it can actually squeeze the threads a little and make it hard to unscrew. The action walls are not as thick as say a Remy etc. so they can be squeezed. Mine came off great with no damage etc.. I did heat it up a little with a plumbers torch, but nothing crazy. With a little thought and care you could make or modify a wrench that will work. Not everything have to be benchrest fancy to accomplish a task. I didn't find anything for a T3 either when I was looking.

Been there, done that. After wrecking a couple barrels that I couldn't sell as take-offs anymore, I had my 'smith build me an outside action wrench. I can pop a barrel off now, like nobody's business.

I have built, and am building several customs on T3 actions. I have designed and installed my own 700 style lug. These rifles are all capable of "switch barrel" status.

Thus the question about a rear action wrench. Again...anyone know who has one about .900" wide?

This is how I made a wrench for my T3.

I used a cut-off wheel on a 4.5'' angle grinder to cut the crow bar. Let me know if you need more details.

Yes please. Did yo leave the "chisel" end on it after cutting the flat bar off of the end? I couldn't read the product tag, what size pry bar was it?

Oh yes I didn't notice the date on the posts.

But My Tikka T3X is a two lug bolt. I found a rear entry wrench specifically for the Tikka T3 action at Patriot Valley Arms. It looks like a hex on the drive end and a two lug flat spoon machined on the action end. I've got one on order. Perhaps with a little heat to break any thread lock I will have some success.
