I made that, show me yours

Remember when Midway first offered this aluminum rifle rest in the mid 90's? It was a good deal selling for around $70.00. It was a big improvement over the Hoppes rest. I bought one. However, there was room for improvements. First to go was the nasty hammer tone blue powder coating. Replaced with black sand powder coat. Added better hardware, tightened leg screws and made a slippery Teflon washers under the elevation wheel.

Then, I made the all steel windage table. The added weight was a good thing.

Not exactly shooting related, but something I made recently. Just finished putting together a new custom watch for myself. Its an automatic mechanical, a Miyota 8215 movement.

BTW, if anyone wonders about watchmaking, imagine handling screws smaller than a single kernel of extruded powder! Oh, and magnets are not good for them, so no magnetic tip drivers, lol!

@liljoe, I like that press!

Any story or pictures of your monarch 10ee ?

Hal
That fine tool was one of five lathes in my manufacturing/repair "cell". It was used by me near daily for 15 years. We parted ways almost seven years ago when I retired.

For checking headspace, shoulder, bullet touch, etc. This is a Bighorn Origin SA. 308 case with a 150 FB seated backwards, then drilled for a piece of 7/64 brass rod (this came from a toilet tank flush assembly). Rod hits the base of the case, extends into the bolt head, while going through the bolt head retaining pin. Now the cross pin won't get hung up while you do your thing. The 308 is a taper fit into the bolt body.

Savage is easy as well. Just like the Origin, gut the bolt, reinstall bolt head, baffle & cross pin. Cut a piece of wire coat hanger, about .0750. It goes through the pin and is held in place by the bolt assembly screw.

None of this is pretty or precise, but it doesn't have to be. It's only for keeping that pin where it belongs while you do the important stuff.
