I love Retumbo.

I have been trying to find a really good load for my Rem 700 #5 Shilen CM 27 3/4' barreled 264 Win mag. When looking at the burn rate chart I saw that Retumbo was right next to H-870, which as you know is no longer made. I know from others past experience that H-870 really made the 264 Win mag do its thing. I tried Retumbo with some 120 Nosler Ballistic Tips and got really good accuracy and 3600 fps. This is way too fast for that bullet to use on deer. So I got some 130 gr Nosler Accubonds and Wednesday went to the range to do a ladder test.
BINGO: 66.5 grs Retumbo in a WW case, CCI 250, 130 Nos. AB, OAL 3.340 would put five shots into 1' outside to outside at 100 yards with a heat mirage that made the target look like it was moving 1' or more at times. It was 87*. Best of all was I was averaging 3450 fps. Now I am going to do a seating depth ladder to see if I can't tighten up the group a little.
I am tempted to try Retumbo in my 25-06 but I don't think I can improve it much. It already shoots 117 Sierra's 3150 fps and will shoot under 1' at 300 yards with 49 grs. IMR or AA 4350.
If you haven't tried Retumbo in your big cases you do not know what you are missing.

As for as I’m concerned, Retumbo is the Varget of big cases. My .284 Achilles, ballisticly a 7mm Dakota or 7mm STW) gets 100fps over other powders like H1000, N170 or H50BMG.

The next chance I get I’m buying an 8lbs keg.

Please kep us posted on the results of your ladder tests. I have a .264 Win Model 70 I recently acquired. Took forever to get clean, yikes?) It is now bedded and awaits optics. I have dies, brass and bullets. Retumbo also works awesome in my 300 Ultramag, 3250 fps with a Barnes 180 MRX, shots all touching at 100yds with my factory XCR. Thanks, Scott

Agree - I started using Retumbo a few years ago when I tried a .300 Rem Ultra Mag. It would shove a 200 grain bullet downrange at 3200 fps!

Have since sold the Ultra Mag, and wondered what I was going to do with the Retumbo when I decided to try it with the 115 gr Berger VLD from my .25-06... Nice... :)

Very nice powder to work with, also flows through the powder measure very well which is great in comparison to some of the long stick powders we commonly use for these big cases.

Regards, Guy

Guy,
You sold the 300 Ultra hammer you just built? I enjoyed reading your posts on that rifle. Keep us posted if you do it again. I have a Broughton waiting for my factory tube to slip, and I'll put a brake on then. It is a fun cartridge.

I got to go to the range Tuesday and try different seating depths with my Rem. 700 Shilen #5 CM 27 3/4' barrel 264 Win mag with the 130 Nosler Accubond.
The temp was a nice 68*. The load that really shoots is this.
66.5 grs Retumbo, CCI 250 primer, Cases were reformed WW 7mm Rem Mag that had been fire formed. Newly formed cases shot just about as good. 130 Nosler Accubond, OAL 3.450,Ten thousands off the lands.) Three shots @ 100 yards center to center .446 velocity average is 3350 fps. That is 100 fps slower than when the temp was 87* with a seating depth of 3.040. I have settled on this load combo and am sighted in 3' high at 100 yards and am ready to bust a deer. Come on Oct. 17.
