Having a service rifle match at our club tomorrow and I wanted to participate so I loaded some Sierra Game Kings in some Rem 30-06 brass for grand-daddy's old 1903 Springfield and headed for the range this afternoon for some sighting. The match involves standing, sitting, and bench with no support, so cartridge accuracy is not a great concern to me - I just let 'em fly toward the big dot on the target as it goes by.
I started at 50 yards and after making some sight adjustments moved the target out to 100. I made a couple of more shots and then moved to different bull. I was using a front rest only and with iron sights I fired five shots into one ragged hole (.475"). I have no idea how, but needless to say, I packed up and went home with my 1/2 inch rifle.
Never do it again in a million years.
