I jumped in the 6.5 Grendel pool, need some info please.

I run a 20 inch AR. Best load by far that I have found is 95 Vmax, Benchmark powder and CCI primer. Acceptable velocity, .75 moa and outstanding performance on wild hogs. Have used it out to 320 yards(As per the range finder) and anchored hogs with authority. Fun cartridge for sure.

My favorite ACCURACY load for my 24" heavy Krieger-barrel A/R is a 123-grain Lapua Scenar, 26.8 grns. IMR8208XBR, CCI450 primer. Shot .271" 5-shot group @100 yds. last time I shot it. Favorite HUNTING load is Barnes 120 TTSX, 25.0 grns. H322, CCI450. I can only imagine what could be worked up in a bolt gun.

I'm running a AR with 18" 8208 and 120 BT nosler accuracy load at there coal and its right at a inch at 100 and most the time under that.

Long time fan of the Howa Mini here - have really enjoyed using these bbl'd actions as the basis for custom builds. Just wish someone would bring far better magazines to market for both the 223 & Grendel boltface versions of the Mini. Now that we have excellent aluminum DBM & BDL-style bottom metal units available to replace the piss-poor OEM plastic triggerguard units, all that remains to make the Mini a really fine rifle are better magazines.

Though I've bought several Minis in 6.5 Grendel, I've never fired a single round of Grendel ammo out of a factory bbl. Not until I'd chambered a 22" Bartlein 6.5mm/1-8tw with a PTG 6.5 Grendel reamer did I finally start shooting this little round. Found the bbl blank on Bartlein's inventory list, in Rem's magnum sporter contour. It had such a short shank that there was no way to hold it in a 4-jaw chuck to do through the spindle set-up. Since I usually turn shanks for the Mini down to 1.090" - and doing so would result in a much longer shank - I decided to use it to replace a Howa factory bbl in 7.62x39, and it turned out fine. I've shot a couple of loads with 123gr SMKs & Lapua Scenars, but aside from satisfying my initial desire to see what sort of velocity the Grendel is capable of with them, I haven't done enough testing to see what sort of accuracy they'll produce in my little custom Grendel. I think 107 SMKs would be my bullet of choice for 600yd steel shooting, and am interested in trying some Berger 85HPs on the lighter end of the spectrum. If I were going to hunt deer with this rifle, then I'd probably go back to bullets in the 120-123gr range, but for having fun exploring the utility of this little round in a bolt rifle, the 107s & 85s will probably get the nod.

I'd also like opinions from those of you who've used both Lapua & Starline Grendel brass. Initially bought quite a bit of the Alexander Arms Grendel brass 10+yrs ago while working with an AR15 match rifle in 6RAT, and until recently, that's all I'd ever used. But after building three Minis that use rounds based on the Grendel, I decided to try a bag of Starline brass. Jury's still out on it, as far as accuracy & durability compare to that of the AA/Lapua brass.
