Yup. Most of the buyers of fine old doubles are dying. The younger kids these days either want over/unders or tactical guns. The antique furniture market is suffering, too. The kids all go to Pottery Barn!I think prices on the old doubles must vary a fair bit from area to area. A buddy has some old doubles of various quality makers, they are selling for less than he gave for them in the 70’s and 80’s. They are much like the Ford model T’s and A’s, bringing a lot less than a short 20-25 years ago.
Bugs you're a member of a dying breed! A very proud breed with a lot of good history!!!It seems like there's less and less interest in these old guns as time goes on, at least to me. I picked up a very, very nice Fox sterlingworth 16 ga. that's a delight to hunt with for 600 bucks about 2 years ago.
Well said, just enjoy it!I used to collect all the quality damask. with exc. bores only. I loved the patterns in the upper grades .One was a basket case in the wood so I repaired it and had the barrels X-rayed and after I was positive the barrels were good, loaded Fed. paper hulls with black powder, shot some trap and then hunted pheasant with it. Best thing I ever did!
If you see a double rifle for a price like that lemme know. I dont care what caliber it isI have seen some double rifles with “odd” by today’s standard chamberings sell for less than years ago. I may succumb to a weakness for such things if I have funds.
