I Have This Old Parker

Any Parker shotgun experts on the forum? I'm still in clutter management and dug up my grand uncle's 1891 12 guage S x S. Frame size #1. 4-3 barrel weight. P grade. If I was to sell it, what would be a reasonable asking price? Trying to make room in my gun safes. Anybody got a SWAG? IMG_20220226_154101.jpgIMG_20220226_153148.jpg

From the pic, it looks like a Damascus barrel. Because of that, you’re probably not going to get much for it. I sold one of my father’s old Damascus Parker’s for $800, about 10 years ago. From what I’ve seen, Parker values are going down like a lot of fine old Antiques.
Take this with a grain of salt, tho. I’m no expert and I haven’t gotten out much lately. Do your research on some known shotgun forums. Try to find a Parker expert and get a solid appraisal.

There are some places that make modern very low pressure loads for these shotguns. And they don't use black powder.

Best I could do for pics of the bores. As can be seen there is some pitting. But as quoted from GunBroker "shiny bore". They do actually shoot them, as mentioned, with a low pressure black powder substitute. Depends on the depth of the pitting.
I have contemplated putting 20 guage sleeves in it and redoing the extractors.IMG_20220226_192852.jpgIMG_20220226_191949.jpg

DON'T screw with it ; Leave it as is Original condition IS EVERYTHING to collectors . PM Me if You like and I'll put You in touch with a Parker collector ,who is also a Gunsmith and has been in the business 50+ years . I knew his Dad who also was a gunsmith ,matter of fact I bought a Commercial 7mm RM 3KL Mauser from him in 1964 ,talk about appreciation value !.

Don't know, where the side by side market is headed. Could be a baby boomer thing. Always wanted a Winchester 21. Settled for a 20 gauge Browning Side by side. Bought one for my wife, with some of our wedding money. The gun doesn't miss on pheasants. My wife loves to roast them.

If you don't need the money, keep it. If you really want to sell it, check first, for a price idea with the Parker Gun Collectors Assos. But in the meantime, don't take less than 6.000.00 for it.

I shoot it! But with really low pressure reloads. I have 12 ga loads that go down to 6800 psi regular ones get to 10700 psi. Check what pressures are produced with black powder. Old SAA 45 colt has very thin cylinders and has a 14,000 psi limit. I have a thousand rds loaded for it in smokeless 8 5 gr Unique, 255 gr bullets by the thousands. Colt Aces, Python, I shoot Colt my collector guns. The SAA and the ACEs are my favorite...the Python is heavily used and likes 125 grs. But I favor the SAA, and have been known to shoot a targets out to 250 yards. A favorite activity in the spring is to walk the mountains with a few hundred rds of 45 Colt, shooting all manor of targets grasshoppers, rabbits, snakes, ground squirrels...or long range rocks...I don't own it if I can't shoot it.
