I have a little more hope for my 270 rem 700 today. Had a good day at the range

I have a stainless rem 700 in 270 that i was never real happy with how it shot. It seemed like it would never shoot the loads or bullets i wanted to hunt with. It has a very very long throat, amd it would shoot 3/4 moa with long bullets seated to long to feed from the mag which I never liked. I have been debating putting a custom barrel on it bit never did go forward with it. I tried h4831,imr4350 re22 and a few bullets and it took alot of tweaking to get even 3-4” groups at 200 yds with mag fed ammo. It just sat on the back burner
Fast forward to today I tried 130 hotcors and imr 4831 at book length that would feed well, and for whatever reason the rifle likes it better than anything else. I think I will take the rest of these loads deer hunting and try a few adjustments later. I might still put a custom barrel on it down the road but at least I have something I can take hunting in a few weeks.
I also shot my 308 savage it just hammers with varget and 150 grain bullets. Whatever primers, bullets are on sale or laying around will shoot under .5 moa. Its kind of nice when it comes easy.

My son's 270 loves them. It also does well with the Hornady 130 Flat base. They do very well on whitetail.

Rem 700's, at least all the ones I ever had which is a lot had long throats. With load development, I never found it difficult to find a high performing load that would fit the magazine.

IMR 4350 and 4831 are traditional powders with a long history of success in the 270. For me, my favorite load was IMR 4350 with 130 Sierra Game King. The Pro Hunter bullet is also a good choice. But I haven't owned or shot a 270 in many years. Another powder some used with success with 130 grain bullets was IMR 4064.

Before I would rebarrel, I'd have the action bedded and barrel free floated if you're using a factory stock. This will often improve group size in Rem factory rifles. Also, you don't need a "tack driver" for deer hunting.

It is bedded and floated in a bell and carlson stock. That was one of the first things I did. This load is shooting good enough for how I hunt, and may get better with a little more testing.

I have a 270 Remington classic. I loaded H 100 V. Am getting 3100+ and 1/2 moa accuracy. With 130 gr sierra game kings. I have shot speer 130 for elk with grate results. Tom.

I haven’t shot any deer with them but I have heard good things about them. Plus they are cheap, I dont have a problem paying more for bullets but it doesn’t hurt that they are pretty darn cheap.
Ever notice Speer bullets never rate an article or praise in the magazines? There must be a kickback system and Speer refuses to pay. But their traditional hunting designs just work and are always best buys. HotCor, Grand Slam, TNT haven't changed, and don't need to.

Yes, they are owned by a big conglomerate that also owns some other lines, for whatever reason they dont seem to market them very aggressively. They even have a polymer tipped bullet, you can barely find info on it if you are looking, its called the impact.

All "Currently Unavailable" on the Speer web site, and only three listed - .264" 140 grs, .308" 172 and 190 grs. A mom-n-pop operation in a sleepy backwater town, but I love 'em.
