I don’t think I like frog lube

I applied frog lube to my series 70 colt lightweight commander in 45 ACP, exactly as the directions say. I used it for concealed carry, and occasional range visits to stay sharp. After field stripping it today to give it a good cleaning, I see that the bluing is completely worn off the rails on the aluminum frame. This has never happened with conventional grease in the past. I doubt that this treatment is sufficient for lubrication. It may be wonderful for rust prevention, But I do not trust it to keep things running smoothly. Just sharing my findings. I stripped off this treatment, and returned to grease on the rails, and a good oil everywhere else.

Wait what am I missing? We used it in AFG on our weapon systems. Never had an issue. When stuff got dusty it made it super easy to wipe down.

It may work better in an all steel gun, but it definitely doesn’t lubricate an alloy framed gun as well as conventional lubes, in my findings.

Frog lube is straight up crap. It was developed to be Eco Friendly with the hopes of gov contracts requiring that but it gums up everything so badly its not worth it. The sales rep for it had our range staff buy a case and we were using it for all the training guns. Problem is that things like the glocks we modded for Simunition get used weekly but sit in a safe. We would take them out at the beginning of class and have to beat some of them open that sticky dam stuff would lock them up. The solution was spray more frog lube and work it till it loosened up. Eventually the guns themselves would start malfunctioning throughout the day as that stuff dried out. I had enough and came to work with some Purple Stuff and Brake cleaner and cleaned all that crap out, re lubed with plain old gun oil, threw the hole case of Frog lube left in the trash, and send them out, no problems ever again.

Did you guys use the spray or the paste? We used the paste. It was never on polymer guns though. M2 50, M240B, M249, M4s, and MK19. We liked it waaaaayy better than CLP.

You can buy a lifetime supply of synthetic oil and grease for what some of this stuff cost... I like slip-2000 but I don't know if it's any better than anything else other than some of the known crap out there... A small bottle last me a year but if you add up those small bottles it's about $200 a gallon... You could definitely buy several lifetimes of synthetic anything for that.... Unless we're talking about machine guns I am not sure it would matter....

That fad faded years ago.

Anyone tried Rem oil or Rem dry spray? The Rem oil is super thin and certaimly works well on the firing pin prings on a Bench rifle. I have not used anything as yet, because my handguns are new and rarely used. Suggestions ?

Make sure you follow the instructions with hobo oil. Too much and it makes your surface sticky. If you dab the recommended amount it works great.

I have not had issues with rem oil. I usually slather it on my blued firearms to prevent rust.

site is not working. I am assuming that rem oil is bad as well? lol

The link was working this morning, but isn't working for me now, either. Keep trying.

Of the 46 products tested for corrosion prevention, Rem Oil was among the poorest performers. FrogLube was pretty good. IIRC, WD40 Specialist (not regular WD40) was one of 3 or 4 top performers.

i bought some FL to try awhile ago. Never had a problem with it. Never though it was anything special, either. I'm sure that in extreme cold it would likely become a problem.

It works well as a carbon remover, so mostly I use it as a cleaner now.
