I DONATED! HAVE YOU?

I've learned a wealth of knowledge from this website that will stay with me until the day I die. From gun building, reloading techniques, shooting techniques, to free classifieds, and an array of other gun related stuff; this website IS the most informative out of all other websites I've ever come across. I thank the website crew, and many of you that I have had the pleasure of talking with, buying from, selling to, and even arguing! Gold mines such and this website can't be improved and continually maintained without the help from OTHERS.

I for one am not moderator, nor part of the crew that helps research, do write ups, maintain the website, or put this stuff out for us to enjoy and learn from. I fall into the "OTHERS" category just like many of yall do!

I enjoy, and respect all of the hard work that goes into this website, and thank all of those involved.

I donated for purely SELFISH reasons. I really like this site and the guys here. If I don't "help out", they might be tempted to sell out to SCOUT!!!

Yes I have. This site is well worth it

Yes,I have. When selling,it would be nice if you could offer a small discount to buyers that have that $ sign. You have to cut some slack because it takes the admins a while to keep up. FWIW, Tom

I'd do it as long as it wasn't reflected in my profile, I like hearing people cry about high trade counts and not contributing.

And after all this time you haven't figured out a way to contribute anonymously? Here are two easy ways:

1) Ask the admins not to change your (non)contributor status when you make your contribution.
2) Set up another username and make the contribution under that. Username "anonymous" is available, if you're shy.

The only thing I would like to see is the constant users that haven't donated ever step up to the plate. I always donate and the donations come from less than 1 percent of the users which is sad. If everyone donated 10.00 Paul would have the money to upgrade servers whenever he feels it is necessary to keep us up and running without having to ask ever.

So now we all know what turns you on and excites you.

I have not donated to this or any other website. Other things I have not donated to include:

- TV stations
- Radio stations
- the little community newspaper that shows up in my mailbox every week
- in general, "free" things

These are all things that I use and derive some degree of enjoyment or information from, but I don't pay for any of them. Why? Because they are not pay services. There are exactly 12 advertisements on this page as I type this, and I presume that they generate revenue for the site. 3 appear to be for the same business, so that's 10 total companies advertising right now on this very page. I have purchased from exactly 7 of them. Does that count for anything? It's a good site and I spend some time here, have learned some things, bought and sold some things*gasp!*, and possibly even contributed some knowledge once or twice. I don't understand why this is the only non-pay site on the internet with the attitude that people that don't pay are somehow low-life's. I don't get hassled by fans of the TV station after I watch the news insisting that I send them a check since I learned something from them. If everyone is supposed to pay it use it, make it a pay site. Then we can all decide if it's worth the entry fee, or if we can live without it.

Flame away boys, I can take it.

Ditto...

I donated just two days ago. Thanks for this great site and all the members for your help. I have a long way to go as far as learning to load and shoot LR BR, but you guys have shortened the learning curve

Thanks
Jaime

I like how some folks will brow beat you or give snide remark if you don't have the liltle " im a patriot" $ sign by your name. Some of us don't need to have our signature with the little donate doo dad on it.

I have given hundreds of dollars over the last couple of years and just recently $20 from a Sale I had on the classifieds. This sight has meant so much to me while I was deployed that I don't think you could even imagine..It kept me looking forward to coming home and all things normal.... and for that I am very greatful.

Another thing I like to do is buy everything I get from AMAZON from this link as they get a kick back. And its so darn easy to do.

So Please.. realize not all of us feel the need to have it pasted all over our signature block.

Hope you all are doing well.....and thank you...

This made me laugh. :)

Here's a couple words in response to Erud's comments.

1. First he is absolutely right that we receive advertising revenue from our sponsors. However, I bet he thinks we collect a lot more revenue than we actually do. I've found that most guys think we are bringing in 5 to 10 times as much as we actually receive.

I know one gun industry VP estimated our revenue, based on the amount of content we produce, and the size of our audience, at 12 times what the site actually earns. He was stunned to learn we have only one full-time employee. He said, do you have any idea what you could do with a real staff? I said -- "Oh I have some idea ... We could triple the written content AND produce instructional videos for our members. But as long as only 1% of members donate each year, that's not likely to happen..."

2. Donations do count -- they represent a very significant share of total site revenue -- and donations are allocated directly for server and IT costs.

3. "Make it a pay site..." Well we could do that but there is an important reason we have not done so... Namely to keep an active membership base in our Forum. Having a big membership base on the Forum provides more collective knowledge for all to share. Also it ensures that when you DO want to sell a product there will be more potential customers.

4. Consider the real value by comparison. If you were to sell a $3000.00 rifle on Gunbroker.com you would pay $53 in fees -- that's right -- over fifty bucks for one rifle.

That's why we think it's reasonable to encourage active sellers to kick in something each year.
