I cut the cherry tree around 1990 and realized that the first few feet of the base had a unique grain pattern, so I had it sawed into boards and saved it. I finally figured out what to use it for. It is the stock in this photo. You can see the unusual grain at the butt end. My friend Brent Lidgard of Mishawaka, Indiana cut it on his CNC machine and finished it for me. This is the second he has done for me and I plan to have him do another from some of my walnut.
I bedded the Pierce 700 BDL clone action in, screwed on the Krieger 30BR barrel and took it to the Wabash, IN varmint match on March 23rd with less than 50 rounds down the barrel. I shot a 49 out of 50 at 100 yards with it, but since no one could see bullet holes at 300 & 400 yards because of the horrible mirage, I didn't do any better than anyone else at those distances.
This will be my wife's custom rifle for this season. She says it's a good thing I didn't try to pass off the old 30BR on her, because the stock on this one is a lot prettier! I should actually have a trigger guard and silver scope rings for it shortly. Darn these gun part shipping delays anyway!
