New Beretta 92X. I want to move the rear sight to the right just a little bit. I have always done this with a brass punch and hammer on other pistols but trying to improve my game I recently bought a Wheeler Armorer's Sight Tool.
I have cranked on this tool with everything I've got short of using extra leverage on the crank handle and the sight won't budge. I have used a hammer and punch to try to shock the sight while under max pressure from the tool. I have taken the slide out of the tool, put in the vise and whaled on it with a brass punch and hammer. I have mashed the punch and knocked the black finish off the sight and still no go.
There doesn't appear to be any staking but it does look like some metal was displaced when the sight was factory installed, like it was really forced in to the dovetail but still I would think it should move. Do they use some type of locking compound? I'm afraid to try heat because there's some small springs associated with the de-cocker/safety in close proximity. As it is I'm pretty sure I'm going to damage something before the sight moves. Advice anyone?
