I Can't Move Beretta Sight

New Beretta 92X. I want to move the rear sight to the right just a little bit. I have always done this with a brass punch and hammer on other pistols but trying to improve my game I recently bought a Wheeler Armorer's Sight Tool.

I have cranked on this tool with everything I've got short of using extra leverage on the crank handle and the sight won't budge. I have used a hammer and punch to try to shock the sight while under max pressure from the tool. I have taken the slide out of the tool, put in the vise and whaled on it with a brass punch and hammer. I have mashed the punch and knocked the black finish off the sight and still no go.

There doesn't appear to be any staking but it does look like some metal was displaced when the sight was factory installed, like it was really forced in to the dovetail but still I would think it should move. Do they use some type of locking compound? I'm afraid to try heat because there's some small springs associated with the de-cocker/safety in close proximity. As it is I'm pretty sure I'm going to damage something before the sight moves. Advice anyone?

Dovetails for sights are usually tapered. If you’re trying to move the sight further into the taper, it will become very difficult, nearing impossible, to move.

Yes I know and conventional wisdom is Beretta dovetail sights install left to right so I'm going against that. But based on experience with many other pistols I would think i should be able to move the sight to regulate...I should only need to move it .015" or so

edit to add: I can't move it left either.

Can you drift the front sight or is it fixed?

The rear sight is tapered to make it harder to go deeper that direction. A quick glance at the manual, they want you to buy the target sights. Those have dowel pins under the elevation screw.

Looks like the Competition Conversion Kit rear sight also requires a much taller front sight. Beretta does have a lower profile adjustable sight on the web store but it's not my first choice. Originally I started looking for one like the picture below which I think ison the Beretta UK site but not US.adjsight.jpg

I took the armourers course at the Beretta factory in Accokeek, and dfuring the tour, I saw how the sights were installed.

They are hard set and use a small hydraulic press to get them in. They slide is placed into a jig, rear sight placed into the dovetail and the press actuated.

Yes they are hard to move/remove.

Thanks for that info. I suspected it must be done that way, in a jig with hydraulic press. On mine as I mentioned earlier there is even some displacement of metal visible on the top of the dovetail like the sight was really forced into a too-small dovetail.

Since last posting I have used heat and a bigger hammer and still no movement. Believe it or not I tried a different barrel and it shoots a lot closer to point of aim.

I think if I want to do anything with it I'll have to mill out the old sight and replace it with a new one.
