I added a pistol range.

I had a bunch of dead oak trees that had to come down. With nothing else to do with the wood, I figured it would make a good backstop. I made it three stacks deep and 8 feet high. I just need to build a high bench/table to lay pistols on.
I put up some OSB backers to test and see if they’ll catch fire when I shoot them. ;)

Looks Good- it will be interesting to see how it holds up.

Josh , I’m jealous. You have a beautiful range and home . I should have moved when you did .
Ann finally retired. Ive had a few bites on selling my mauser collection. First one was half of the last . Soon I hope . I’m tired of maintaining them . I’ve been the caretaker too long , someone else’s turn.
Stay well .

I have guest bedrooms for you and Ann. The home prices are coming down. The Covid rush is over and the Austin Tech bubble burst. C’mon over!

Did much the same thing many years ago. We had a lot of trees far too close together along the back fence line. Cut and piled for a backstop 6 feet high by 8 feet wide by 12 feet deep. Faced with two layers of railroad ties, nothing gets through. I add to it every spring when cutting out more trees.
And that groundhog found out he had made a big mistake about 5 minutes later!Dumb Groundhog Before.jpg

You're living the dream!!

I always wanted to have a private range but never manage to do it. The closest I came was at a farm owned by the friend of the family back in the late 70's. He had a nice flat area with very a substantial background. I shot many of pistol rounds there, mostly a tin cans at very distances which was fun in the extreme. :) :) :) :)

That's a good idea!

I ever get the opportunity to make another private range, I'll have to decide if it makes more sense to have the bench on a trailer and mobile, or the backstop. The topography will determine that. It'll be awhile, at best.

Always appreciate the ingenuity I see on this site.

I have a pistol range and a 55yd rifle range out back. Just had to go clear some brush for the rifle range yesterday. We have a deep spring on the property line that my neighbor and I share for 100yd shooting but It's easier to go to the local range than to keep climbing up the hill from where our target stand is positioned.

My wife and I are looking at properties in western Georgia and one of my desires is enough land to have my own range. It is not easy to find such a property. I thought we found the perfect place on 11.5 acres last week..... until we entered the driveway shared by 2 other properties. A single lane, sort of, goat path. I was hearing dualing banjos..... Apologies for the hijack. Nice little range you have there. Enjoy!

I was clearing some white pine (messy buggers) and thought of a pistol range. I stacked logs, the one on my forks was more than she wanted to handle. I can step out the door and shoot 200. Wish it was longer.
