"Hyper" Velocity 22LR

I use the term "hyper" loosely, as all 22LR are still slower than grandma in a wheelchair...

That said, just because I am curious, how are the faster ones like Velocitor and Stinger made?
Or better said, how are the faster velocities achieved? Is it special powder? Or more powder? Or proprietary primer medium?

Anybody know what barrel length say CCI Velocitor is tested at? 1435fps out of an 18" barrel?

velocitors are gold dot bullets , Stingers have longer brass case and lighter 33gr bullets. and BOTH are kick ars little critter getters! burn clean and work. I love em both!
std velovity lead suck at dispatching game
mini mags are a good in between

Grandmothers in wheelchairs may not be fast, it's all relative. There's nothing wrong with calling a CCI Stinger a hyper velocity .22LR round because any time that caliber produces MVs like Stinger's nominal 1640 fps it's not simply high velocity.

CCI Stinger rounds have a longer case than other .22LR cartridges. That allows for more propellant. The lighter 32 grain bullet also helps achieve higher velocities.

Good question.
The two rounds you list are different.
As mentioned, the Stinger trades off case cap and bullet weight for velocity in an obvious way.
Velocitor does not. It must be higher efficiency propellant but I can't find anywhere that cci brags about what they've done.

If barrel length isn't listed I cynically assume it's whatever lets them claim what they want.

Out of my 18.5" 10/22, CCI Velocitors only gave me MV around 1300 fps and other's with a 10/22 did. The highest velocity I've seen obtained for this cartridge was 1463 out of a CZ 455 with a 21" Lilja barrel. (velocities measured with MagnetoSpeed v3)

CCI Stingers out of my 10/22 gave me a little more than 1500 fps and I've only seen one person get more than I with an MV of 1614 fps and that was also out of a 10/22 18.5" barrel.

Winchester Hyper Speed, I got around 1360 fps out of the same gun and the only MV I've seen that got at or a little better than the published MV was 1441 fps out of a 23' Anschultz 1710D. Browning sells this same cartridge under their name made by Winchester and I got the same results with it.

If I remember correctly the 0.22LR cartridge was sized for a 5gr charge of blackpowder. Smokeless loads are what 1.5gr? There's enough room for a larger charge I believe.

Who’s picture is on it?

Sounds right.
Q Then why hasn't the standard HV load gone up in power?
A Probably product liability law for the 1% of guns that might have problems???
Q Why then do a few products get away with it?
