Hydro die with live primers

phone line cut today so ICannot ask the die makers but what happens if live primers are used when forming dasher brass from 6br brass Lapua?

may have to scrounge the garbage for spent primers otherwise

Searched but could not find answer

assuming you are using water.... nothing....

I use rubbing alcohol, and that may not be so safe.... There SHOULDN'T be any ignition, but we all know that SHOULDN'T does not mean CAN'T... I would never risk it.

Pull out so old brass that needs to be sized anyway... and keep those primers.

Hydro forming can set off a primer. I've done it.
what was it like?

In the past I have tried to deaden primers with water, oil and wd40 I think to no avail, if no spent primers is there a somewhat foolproof method of deadening live primers for this purpose

should have been hoarding spent primers but I sell the, in small plastic honey bottles for mailing to politicians. It is a joke ok

Snap a couple of primers in an empty case. Nothing but a safe pop when pointed in a safe direction.[/QU

Ive used a live primer as i didn't have a spent one at that particular time, soaked it in water for 30min before hand then formed 100 cases with no issues.. Not saying its a good idea but no harm was done when i did this.

Cheers Rushty

It didn't do much, pushed the primer down to the shell holder and a little puff of smoke out the bottom and a little black on the shell holder. I still wouldn't recommend it though.

I use live ones all the time. wolfs I dont use. No problems. I switched back to water from alcohol because its thicker and seems to from up the shoulder better.

be carefull messing with live primers,,I missed one when annealing some brass and had to dig it out of my calf with eyebrow tweezers,,and Greyfox has one in his stomach that they decided to leave in there,,

Just start saving your spent primers for a bit.. They add up fast.. They have a lot of power in a small package, be careful..

Wow.. Ouch.. Those little things pack a lot of energy..

If you have a pack of primers you won't likely use just drop them in a container with a little paint thinner (or other hydrocarbon solvent...WD40 works) and it will kill the primer. Just remember to pitch them afterwards so as not to load them by accident as they will not ignite. It may be more convenient than 'dumpster diving' for spent primers.
