Hunting scope under $800

Lots of good ones, I would look at a Burris Veracity or Veracity PH if he's a bit techy. Can't ask for a better warranty. A few brands I would avoid like the plague, I won't name them in the open to avoid a s storm but I will in a PM.

What are you looking for (features)?
Magnification?
SFP/FFP?
There's a ton of scopes out there in that price range.

I was/am using Sightron. Still a good choice and budget friendly.

But for the past few years I've been switching over to Crimson Trace.
Good glass. Good fit and finish. Everything operates smoothly.
And budget friendly.

Your parameters of use would be a big factor in your selection and my recommendation. I use scopes ranging from 1-4x20 to 3-15x40ish on hunting rifles depends on what and where I'm hunting.

I have Athlon Argos 2-12x40/3-15x4? scopes on open country coyote rigs. I'm really liking a Leupold 1.75-6x32 for all around work and I have an old Sightron II 1.5-6x40 that I like. My new tracking/still hunting drilling wears an old Weaver K-1.5. I do like a lot of FOV on the bottom end for close in and moving game and 4x will take me to 300 yards on coyotes.

I would get one of the trijicon scopes. Pick whichever one fits your budget and has the features you are wanting. They have been known to be very durable. There are others that are known to be durable but are above your price range.

The Vortex Diamondbacks are in a good place for price/performance - good enough glass, a range of options for power range an reticle, and easy on the wallet. I got a couple of 6-24x50s for my air rifle and .22LR because they're one of the few that perform well at 10 meters, and have been very happy with them. There's a demo on EuroOptic right no for $340 - great price!

You might have to buy used, but all my hunting rifles wear the Vortex Razor LHT 3-15x42. They track, have excellent optics, illumination that is done right, and have great hunting reticles.

The choice should be based on what he will be doing with it. Nothing mentioned here would work for the type hunting done in my state.

I would begin by identifying what works, then I would spend the time it takes to search forums, sales, open box deals, and demo deals. I would never consider buying new and I would seriously consider where my choice is manufactured and it’s weight/size.

I would seriously look at Meopta at Europtics.

I would go to MidwayUSA right now and look at the Viper HS in 2.5-10. It is on sale right now for 250, and for a general purpose gun, it's perfect. I grabbed one this sale cycle and have two more on rifles in the safe.

I went with a Trijicon 3-9 for my daughter's first scope. I think it's great for that, put the shiny spot on what you want to shoot, but it's not a precision rig, more of a steel banger/eventually hunting option. The tritium takes up space to see, it's about an MOA size, so it completely covers your 1" aim point at 100 yards.

I have purchased four here in the past two years for that expenditure. Three Vortex Strike Eagles, a 4-18x44, two 5-25x56's (all illuminated), and a Leupold 4.5-14x40 CDS. The Leupold is still in the shrink wrap.

They are out here, just shop a little. If you do not find one, DM me.

Gosh, I would look at a used Nikon, Monarch, pre monarch, Weaver t6 or t10 (they are fixed which may be a problem), I would look for a MINT condition 3x9 Weatherby Supreme, made in Japan. It's real hard to find a mint one these days. Leupold as mentioned above. Older, mint condition Sightron. Fixed or variable? tell us what final decision is! Lots of good choices. I have a very nice 6x24? bausch lomb, old one, for target rifle. Reticle will be almost as important as choice of scope.

I had to do a double take on this, I thought I posted it but couldn’t remember doing it! :) I have these on my Kimber 22 HS and one on my FX Impact M3 (25 caliber). You forgot to mention first focal plane, I love this in a scope!!
