Hunter's Safety books for kids

Adam in WI

Practically lives here
I'd like to be able to take my daughter along hunting and shooting. She shows a real interest, and is very teachable. The limiting factor seems to be my ability to properly convey the basics to her. She is 10 years old, and loves reading ( and reads quite well). I'm wondering if anyone has any old hunters safety materials around, or books they can recommend for her to read that will help me out with the basics. I've shot with her before; she's shown great potential with my Kel Tec CMR, and can hold a pretty good group with my Hatsan PCP; but I want her to have a better and more thorough understanding of the how to's and why's.

Contact your local game warden or game dept. they probably have Hunter Safety manuals available, or a local hunter safety instructor. And the NRA has manuals available.

I checked out the Hunter Ed site earlier. Looks like good information, however I think she'd be better with printed copy. Also, I feel like that site goes a little "into the weeds" explaining minutes of angle and other advanced topics that are probably better being learned later.

Agree.
My girls and Godchildren went through the same steps here in CA. I looked to see if they kept their print materials but they have been long gone.

Adam, send me your contact/mailing address. I think I have a couple older Hunter Ed books and some DVDs that were used in the classroom as welll. We've gone to the computer based version (I HATE IT) but that's what Minn. DNR prefers now.

No problem....The computer based system we use now is just MESSED UP. The students don't get any hands on with the various actions and types of firearms among other things and it REALLY shows on range day. Not only that but IMHO (judging by the short test scores) I believe a lot of parents are doing the on-line part for their kids 'cause the kids (not all) show a complete lack of understanding of what is in the on-line part.....Sorry for the rant...I'll get what I can out ASAP.
