Hunter class ?

Trying to get my feet wet in centerfire shooting . Is there a Hunter class of rifle comp. and if so where are the matches and what specs does your rifle have to meet ? Thanks , Kenneth

If you are referring to either the IBS or the NBRSA, for 100,200 and 300 Yd. benchrest score shooting the answer is yes. If you visit the web site for the IBS you can read the rules as they pertain to Hunter and Varmint Hunter class. Easy way to link up to IBS is to go to www.benchrest.com and click on the IBS logo.

There are also highpower sporting rifle event(s) sanctioned by the NRA. It these, it is 3 position shooting at 200 yards with your trusty scoped rifle. Primarily, the rifle is limited to 9.5 lbs all up not including a sling.

You can look at the rules on nrahq.org under competitions. PM me if you need a direct link.

check your local clubs mine just put together a hunter class last week consisted of
300yrds bench 1 on steel then 10 for record in 10 minutes
200 yrds prone same shots
100 yrds standing same shots

they are seeing if there is any interest in it since the f-class matches have taken off like a rocket.

I was wonerding the same thing. I wont build a rifle exclusively for competiton, I always will hunt with any rifle that I build. Because of that, I will never own a rifle over 12 lbs and can't compete with the f/tr rigs weighing 18. Would be kinda cool to have a competition where you had to move station to station and had 30 seconds to range a target and take a shot from prone/bipod. Anything out there like that??

Best advice is to check the local clubs. For example my club hosts sanctioned F-class matches where the two classes are F/Open & F/TR. But we also shoot an "F"-class league at the club and the two classes are "Hunting Rifle" & "Unlimited". Which pretty much opens it up to shoot what you got in an informal match setting..

There are alot of informal match type of shoots going on that are set up to do exactly what you want. Best thing you can do is find out all the clubs/ranges within your driving distance and contact them to see what type of shoots/matches they have to offer. You wont know till you ask... ;)
