Hunter Class Score Competition

Jackie, I like your club’s VFS categories. Maybe we need something similar for Hunter class?
Just thinking we need more gateways for more folks to join our circle.
In my case, my starting USBR with a “plinker” class rimfire led eventually to my rimfire bench gun. And my factory made 6ppc led me to full blown custom rifles for VFS and group shooting.

As someone who hunts and does varmint shooting and being an outsider looking it (currently a non-competitor) I would have to agree that PRS style doesn't belong in hunting, it however would fit in varminting just fine and of course PRS. As for hunting, I have lots of hunting rifles, mostly small calibers and none of them weigh less than 9lbs with a scope shoot well enough to compete with. The only one that shoots <1/2moa is 10.4lbs, and sure I could rebarrel something else to shoot better and be lighter, but I might as well build a custom gun just for hunter if i was going to do that and then I'd never actually hunt with it. so... um yeah. Just saying.

As for the comment about younger folks not being able to afford the sport, have you seen what they spend on PRS? Those folks that got in early are already saying they are slowing down and it's only natural that they will migrate to your side of the game. Those young folks don't stay young... target them as they get older there will be a steady supply.

I know this thread is over a year old but I came across it after I was inspired by an article that I read earlier this year by Bob Pease on the start of and history of Hunter Class BR. And honestly the challenges of the original rules and regs of how it all started with 10 pound rig, 6x scope, and no more then 2.250" forend is what made me personally so interested. I know there was talk of how to attract the younger generation, well I'm 33 and I think It all comes down to the individual and there mindset and what interests them. Someone who really is interested in attention to detail and precision. There is not much for registered benchrest matches near me here in western South Dakota but I did throw this rig together out of inspiration from Bob Pease's article. Just got this hunter class stock on here recently and the seller did not know the maker. From what I've gathered I think It may be an old Lee Six or a Kelbly after they bought the molds. Was wondering if any of you seasoned veterans had any idea on it just by looking at it. I already had the barreled action. Trued rem 722 with an 11 twist shilen chambered in 308 Win. Wanted to keep it as more original as when hunter class br all started as possible. Hunter br scopes are harder to come by now a days so I threw my old trusty gold ring VX2 6-18x40 with front AO on there and I am still within the 10 pound limit. If anyone has any ideas on the stock I would love to know who made it.

Thanks for bringing this string back. Al Nyhus is a very accomplished shooter/ riflesmith who may be able to help you identify the stock. He was a contributor to this string and is from your state although the other side if i remember correctly.
If you look here in the north central region, there are several clubs relatively close to you that shoot registered benchrest. Check them out and get in on the fun.
