Humidity & Gun Safes

What do you folks use INSIDE your gun safes to keep the humidity down? We here are already into 100% days, and no my safe isn't in the house, but the temp is regulated when it gets cold. Am using large packets now, but rejuvenating them is a pain, or is that something that just goes along with it?

Many thanks. Pappy.

I use a 12" or 18"goldenrod heater in my gunsafe. It runs warm, not hot, and keeps the humidity down. My safe has a hole at the bottom, which I ran the cord through, and a hole at the top for a lifting eye, so it gets some ventilation, as the warmer air rises. The safe sets on 1" thick riser blocks (in my case 8x3x1 steel) to keep it off the concrete floor. I plugged in the rod in the 1990's and it has run 24/7/365 since then.

I ran 2 golden rods inside mine, never had a problem.

Supposely theres some other deals you put in amd have to rejuvenate. But I like maintenance free.

Well you have talked me into it. Questions
I understand a 5/16 hole is big enough? The plug must disconnect from the cord?

My safe is only around 12 CuFt, wanting to get by with just one what length would you suggest?

Can one just lean the rod in the safe instead of mounting it and how close can it be to a gun?

Many thanks again. Pappy

Mine just lays on the bottom but it really doesn’t matter . The plug in you mentioned indeed needs to be removed to run the power through the smallest hole possible.
I have led lights on a motion detector as well.

....to add just a little clarity, cut the 120V plug off, pull the electrical cord thru the small hole you drilled in safe and re-splice the 120V plug.

In the photos below you can see that the plug in is designed to be assembled after install through the safe wall. You can also see the interior plugs and the motion detector

338 dude, many thanks for the GoldenRod idea. I searched around and read other shooters input on it, and since mine is a Magnum with only around 12 CuFt space I opted for the 18" GoldenRod and so far it's done super. Right off on installing it our weather settled in for about a week of 100% humidity and hot. I've not seen over 84 degrees but mainly the humidity has stayed in the 50% range. Thanks again.
