HS precision stock opinions

Hey guys I'm thinking about getting my first HS stock. I've never owned one and would like some good, bad etc. on them. This is not going to be a benchgun by any means, its going to be a plinker/varmint/deer gun on a 700 chambered in 6.5x47L. How do you compare them to the Mcmillans. Are the stong, is accuracy close to the mcmillans or the same?, do they hold good zero .. .From what I've researched it seem like many favor skim bedding the aluminum block, not sure if I should but it makes sense to me to do it. I know some guys don't want to give negative/not so praising reviews openly so I'd welcome PM's too
Thanks!

I have one for my "Deer Stand" rifle. They are excellent. VERY stiff (rigid), light weight and "shoulder" (as in bringing it up to aim) very nicely. BUT do have it skim bedded.. You will love it..

I think one would serve your purpose well for the activities planned. Both McMillan and HS Precision stocks have the potential to be excellent stocks. With the HS, try it without the bedding first to see how it shoots for you. If you are happy how it shoots, you're done. Both stocks have a tendency the chip if bumped by something hard, specifically on an edge of the stock. That is just part of the game with fiberglass composit stocks. I have had great luck with all brands of composit stocks that I have tried (Whidden, McMillan, HS, B&C).

Bought first H-S Precision stock, the police model, in 1997 from Brownells. Basically same design as Sendero and Varmint models Remington used. Owned a lot of H-S stocks since and NEVER a problem or concern.

Have owned 4 McMillan stocks since late 90s. Two manifested Severe Manufacturing Defects. Two stocks they replaced were botched in barrel inlet job they did. One of these stocks came to me with such poor finish and appearance that it should have been rejected by any competent quality control inspector. The stocks that were returned for repair/replacement were both more than 4 yrs old before their manufacturing defects began to affect the stock exterior.

Have also had good experiences with several Bell & Carlson stocks; never a problem.

I have NOT had good results from any of my interactions with McMillanUSA.

You move from thread to thread, bashing McMillan ::)

Go for it, i have used many through the years and have never had a problem with them. As said before, shoot it first before skim bedding it.

+1 for what Dan said. Very good stock, as is B&C, for the money. I would bed it to leave nothing on the table.

For a critter gitter I prefer the HS over the McMillian because of the finish/paint/coating of the stock, the little extra grip is nice for general field use though there's nothing wrong with the McMillian

Bashing?

How is it "bashing" to state that out of 4 stocks owned in the past 17yrs, two were made with significant manufacturing defects? And 2 of the warranty replacement stocks they provided were botched in terms of barrel inlet?

I can tell you that for $565, a stock ought to be inletted with care and seemingly every other stockmaker can produce a "standard Winchester 70 barrel contour" in their finished work.

I can tell you that no other custom or aftermarket quality stock I have owned had bubbles that migrated through the surface layer and popped, or that no other stock I ever owned began losing chunks of external finish layer all along the inlet area from tang to forend.

How is it "bashing" to state facts about 3 products I had the misfortune to own?

Only decent stock I owned of the McMillan brand was an Edge for model 700.

Bashing? Have owned about a dozen H-S Precision stocks and NO PROBLEMS.

Guess I will have to spend some time and detail the matter further; let others decide if my experience and expectations were reasonable...

If my intentions were to "bash" McMillanUSA I could get much more specific...

As it goes, if you own a McMillan stock, I would advise you to regularly inspect the surface of your stock for chips, cracks, bubbles, and other evidences of manufacturing defects.

In my experience, unlike Leupold, Burris, Williams, Uncle Mike's; McMillanUSA will not honor their warranty with correctly made product.

There are many reports of Remington 700 bolt handles breaking off, and safety problems. Is it "bashing" to mention one's experience with those situations also?

I own an H-S precision. I bought it attached to a Remington sendero, before they hired a cold blooded murderer as a spokesperson. I refuse to have any future dealings with them.
