HS xp100 stock questions...

Can the HS precsion Xp-100 stocks be refinished easily? say you have one you found that your not really thrilled with the colors of it... can it be refinished to be cerakoted or painted/air brushed? or is the exterior coating that comes on them pretty much it, not much can be done?

I ask because I have an xp getting built with a new stock I was able to find, the colors are ok... but if it is able to be refinished I would like to eventually get it done differently...

just wondering here how difficult they are to work with in this respect, never owned an HS stock before now with this custom build...

For what its worth, it should be done this month sometime... Getting built at Apache Machine, .284 win, and 6.5x47 lapua switch barrel!!!

Sure, maybe a body shop or even a rattle can. It is fiberglass and Kevlar so paint away.

Krylon Fusion (light coats), It bonds with the material and won't chip or peel (at least mine never have). I also use it on the little kids play tables and chairs also and it stands up to all their abuse.

A 284 in an XP? Thats manpower there

I had mine chambered in that for a while real deer hammer, would shoot 1/2 groups at 100 pretty easy, its now in a 7Fingers chassis in 6BR with an 18 inch barrel shoots bugholes :)

Sorry didn't mean to hijack your post :o

been on there a lot! Learned a lot too!

I once painted a walnut 40X stock with auto primer and then shot it with base/clear. It is now 20 years old and still looks great, so painting fiberglass...like a Corvette, is a no brainer. I would stay away from the latex and rattle can, if you want it to last a long time.

With all respect , I would disagree if using Krylon Fusion.

Respectful disagreement noted and accepted. That is what I love about this forum...civility!

My mileage with various can sprays has not been good, but maybe fusion is a better product. Either way, you certainly can prime and paint such a stock.

Good to know!! Im not going to do anything right away, but eventually i will, its not enough of an eye sore to worry right away... thanks for the info guys!
