HPBT or Amax

What 105 grain bullet would you try in a 6br Criterion barrel with a 1:8 twist. I am having a hard time finding the Sierra 107s right now and would like to make an order so I have something to shoot this summer.

In this order:

1.) 105 Berger Hybrid 2.) Berger 108 and 3.) 105 Lapua Scenar.. All have superb accuracy potential!

I like the 105 VLD. The hybrid wouldn't shoot in my gun. Matt

Several years ago I used a-max bullets when fire forming 6BRX brass and popped a prairie dog at 1212 yards with one. I think they would shoot. Problem is... The bean counters and wizards of smart at Hornady don't make them any more. At least for the time being. So unless you have 2-3000 laying around I would try anything else. Hard to beat Bergers tho.

Matt, what brand of barrel did you try the Hybrid in? I would agree though that Berger 105 Hybrid, VLD, BT, or the 108 BT would work well in a 1-8 twist. I shoot all of them with good success.

I shot them in a Broughton. The gun shot a new 6 Match score record at Reade. That was with the 105 VLD. This is 1000 yard benchrest 10 shot groups, the Hybrids shoot vertical no matter what I did with them. Now I got it down to 8 inches vertical but that is not near good enough. The VLD shoots in the 4 to 5 inch range. Matt

I have had luck with the hybrids. 10 shots under 5''. Average around 6'' groups at 1000 for 10. I even shot them in a Broughton. Just goes to show every barrel is different. I have not played with the vld that much. But friends guns shot them great.

If the OP is asking about strictly Hornady bullets, my vote would be Amaxes by far.

I guess a question is what are you using them for?

I've used the Amaxs on hogs and they pop almost as good as a Vmax.
