HP Rifle Target Spotter Disk Size

Just got my 600 yd range set up with steel and paper targets. I want to order shot spotter disks for scoring NRA 600 yard paper targets and noticed they had 2 sizes, 3 in and 5 in disks. What is the correct size for 600 yards?

3" I would seek out the source for the (relatively new) plastic spotters; these things take a lickin' and keep on tickin'! We counted one with nearly 60 hits still in use until it was hit (for the second time) dead on the spindle and had to be retired.

3" would be for sling shooting with open sights. The F class spotter is 1 1/2" for 600yds. If you are interested in the injection molded flexible plastic spotters, you will need to look up George Adamski in Minnesota.

F-class 600yds- 3" or smaller, greater than 600yds- 5" or smaller.

Yes, Ringo...that is the person who made our plastic spotters....once the formulation of the plastic got worked out they have been fantastic and safer for pullers in the pits.

The 5" spotters are for 1000yd sling shooters! Would hate to have somebody use one at 600 as it would interfere for identify your shot location by the shooter.

5" are scoring disks at 600 and closer.

OP, The size of spotters and scoring discs for NRA competition are specified in the NRA High Power rule book. If you plan to run NRA approved matches I would recommend that you refer to the rule book. Sometimes you will get opinions that are not consistent with the rules.

I would go with 3". I do like the 1.5" spotters we have used at times but in heavy mirage they can disappear from view.
