Howa

Anyone shoot the Howa 1500 S/A rifle for hunting? I recently picked up one from the Monday specials here on 6mmbr.com from Whittaker Guns. Wondering how they do and your impressions. I know its not a custom action, stock or barrel....but at $299.00, I couldn't resist. Kind of reminds me of the Remington 788 from my childhood.

Excellent rifles , have been around for a long time . Weatherby, S&W , Mossberg all used or uses the rifle .

Good rifles, but not built anything like a 788. The Howa only has two recoil lugs, no detachable mag, an integral recoil lug, m16 extractor and an excellent trigger that can be easily adjusted and tuned to a safe light pull weight. It's as if the Japanese took a Rem 700 and winchester Model 70, bred them to make a child, then added an M16 extractor. That's how I usually describe the Howa 1500 ;)

The only thing I don't like about a Howa 1500 is that the action weighs more than a tank!!! Even the trigger housing is a beast! But they can be very accurate rifles and that's what counts ;)

GREAT RIFLES I VE BUILT A FEW RIFLES ON THOSE ACTION AND THEY SHOOT VERY WELL THE ONLY DISLIKE I HAVE IS THEY ARE MERTIC THREADS

90% off my shooting friends are running with Howas and they sure are shooters. With some proper love that trigger can break like glass in ounces.

This thing hammers animals off all sizes around here and bangs steel with no problem, 6.5creed.
Obviously not off the shelf but with a bit off atention they are fantastic.

FYI: Pacific Tool and Gauge is now selling Howa 1500 barreled actions for $299. Howa offers a detachable mag kit, also.

My Mossberg 100ATR says North Haven Connecticut USA on it. How are the Howas marked ?

Thanks Guys. I put it into a B&C stock. Not gonna load for this one. Gonna try Prime Ammo 6.5- 130 OTM ammo. They have great reviews. We shall see. Topped with a NF SHV 3-10. Light weight deer/hog rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor.

I bought a Tikka a year ago. Made in Finland. You are saying the Pricier Sako is not made in Finland but Japan ? I am skeptical but susceptible to facts. Any pics or literature ? First I ever heard of this. - thanks :)

From the Sako website

Sako is manufactured in Finland, but sold in all continents. Find the distributor near you.

I've got 5 rifles built by Howa- 3 Howa 1500s, 1 Smith and Wesson 1500, and 1 Weatherby Vanguard. Every one of them has been sub MOA. The Howas are a bit less refined in their finish but are shooters nonetheless.

My Vanguard in .240 Wby would shoot moa one day and minute of pie plate the next day. I finally broke down and pillar bedded it and free floated the barrel. Hopefully that will make a positive improvement. One thing I found was that the internal magazine was binding on the bottom pretty bad. Hopefully I get to shoot it this weekend.
