Howa mini question

MDT6BRA

Silver $$ Contributor
I got a question for you guys. I have a howa mini in 6bra, 2 barrels for it. If I bought another action, would I need to have the headspace checked or could I just screw one of the barrels onto the new action and go shoot? Thanks

To mate a known barrel with an unknown action or vice versa, it is wise to use the right tools including headspace gauges.
Thank you for replying, could I use a piece of fired brass from that barrel, since it’s a 6br ackley?

I’ve found how as to be very consistent and the action threads timed so that the lettering lines up.
That said yeah screw it together and check it with some HS gauges
Fired brass is not good enough

Can I get a ackley headspace guage or would I just have to use a 6br, I know you usually want a slight crush when I am firing new brass.

I don’t make as much out of headspace as some do, it’s a wildcat so there is no solid written in stone numbers unless you have a reamer print. Headspace is what you make of it. I get more concerned with neck length.
Some dykem and some brass shim stock.
On a totally unknown, I do a cerosafe chamber cast to get a rough idea of what I have.

I just reread this. 6BRA on a mini, I have heard guys opening the bolt face or others cutting rims down on the 6BR brass. Curious as to which you may have.

I suspect the stupid barreled actions may be an import thing?
I keep hoping for more aftermarket support. I sure like all of mine, slick as a button compared to others imho.

I contacted howa to see if I could buy just an action from them and they said no so I’d say your right. Doesn’t make sense to me why they would sell them if they were assembling the barreled actions.

It’s the standard 7.62x39 / 6.5 Grendel magazine that came with the howa action. Feeds perfect, all in a mdt chassis
Looks like a fun little rifle! I have been getting quite a few inquiries about working on these little bolts lately. Seems as if they are quite popular and I can see why, as the machine work on the bolts is very nice. Carry on.

It’s hard to beat in my opinion, short throw, smooth, and a timney thrown in there. My 12 twist lilja shoots awesome with 70 and 80 nos bt and vmax. I have a hart barrel 1/10 also but it just doesn’t seem to be as accurate as the lilja but it’s a 20” too.

I've been looking at these minis for a while for a light weight truck gun. How light would be reasonably achievable, 6lbs with a 20" sporter barrel?

I've really been thinking about doing one of these in either 6bra or 30br with a carbon fiber stock. I've got one in a 450 bushmaster setting in the safe.
