Howa Mini Actions ?

The first gen ones are the ones with the terrible release. There are some stronger springs for them plus cutting them down makes a big difference. The second gen has a completely different release system that works pretty well. The aftermarket bottom metal is really nice also.

Hinged floor plates and blind mags.

There used to be a cz magazine conversion but I can't find that
JeffersonOutdoors offers a conversion/replacement bottom metal that uses CZ 527 metal magazines. I believe he offers two versions, 223/300BO and Grendel/ARC/7.62x39. I have both versions and no more issues.

Oregunsmithing offers a replacement bottom metal with internal mag well and hinged floor plate. Very nice upgrade as well.

I HAD a pencil barrel 223. It shot really good,……for about 3 rounds and would then vertical like 3”@100 and start a new group. Let it cool down and it was right back where it started. Thought about keeping it for walking rig. Nope to many 223’s anyway. Local farm store decide to liquidate all their Nosler ammo, got a pile of factory ammo for cents on the dollar when I bough a case. Ordered a prefit with a nut from Preferred Barrels in 22 Nosler. Forward a year or two and there were some good buys on bulk 22Nosler ammo. I am not unhappy, Oryx chassis, use 6.5 Grendel magazines with a bit of material removed at the back of the mag because it was skipping over the rebated case. Now it feeds so smooth I find myself pulling the bolt back to see if it picked up a round.
The Oryx chassis is not a favorite for me.

I have a couple Mini Howas I use for coyote hunting and pack them for treks though thick brush and desert and have never had a problem with a magazine not staying in place. I am using the Bell and Carlson stocks. Not sure if stock design has anything to do with it.

My mini actin 223 shots very well with a skinny barrel 5 shots int a nickel @ 100 Yards. But so easy even on the bench table to bump the release and have the clip fall out. needs maybe a much stiffer spring?

I nip every one of them with a diagonal cutter, then touch it up with a file. They protrude maybe 1/8” or less and I don’t bump them anymore. I’ve rebarreled over a dozen at this point but the factory barrels have shot well also. Wish I could find another sale on the 7.62x39 bbl’d actions for less than $240 again…made a bunch of Grendel wildcats on them.
