Howa Mini 6.5 Grendel stock

Trying to find a replacement stock for my Howa Mini action. There aren't a lot of options out there for the mini action. Manners and McMillian are out of the budget. Boyd's, but I really don't want a laminate stock. Bell&Carlson offers a M40 style and MDT offers the Oryx. Both of those have my interest. The B&C is 2lbs and the Oryx is 4.2lbs. Weight isn't a big issue so that's not a problem. Just not to sure how I will like the chassis style stock. Any suggestions or options other than the ones I mentioned?

I have the bell and Carlson on mine. I have been very pleased with it. I keep getting tempted to try one of the stockys carbon stocks but I keep putting it off because the rifle shoots so well the way it is currently set up.

Brownells also used to sell a checkered walnut stock for the mini as well. Not sure if they still do.

I now have a nice light little sporter 6.5 Grendel in a B&C stock with flush bottom metal from Jefferson Outdoors early run.
222 ended up in a pro varmint Boyd’s laminate with bottom metal from DIP.
223 pencil barrel got swapped for a 22 Nosler and ended up in a Oryx chassis.
7.62x39 came with factory sporter wood stock.

The B&C stock is a dandy, wish they offered a wider variety.
The Boyd’s is, well, a Boyd’s. Bedding may be of some benefit it the rig works well.
The Oryx my first and last. Sits to low and is not my cup of tea. It is stiff though.
Factory sporter wood. Nothing to write home about. They could do better.

The Oryx isn't the sexiest chassis around but they certainly work well.

Extremely well IMO, at least for range use.

@Pyscodog ..... liking a chassis vs conventional stock is a very personal thing. I like the genre, and from the numbers being bought and fitted these days, (not to mention the huge numbers of inline-layout AR style rifles) so do many others.

If you do go down the Oryx route, I'd give two tips:

1) ensure the 'pull' is long enough. (The Oryx has a four butt spacers kit available as an add-on purchase that when all four are fitted adds an inch to the 'pull' length.)

2) Mount the scope high.

Failure to get the set-up right sees you hunched over the buttstock with your head forced down unnaturally low to line the eye up with the scope. Very uncomfortable, and few shoot well as a result.

You may also benefit from lightening trigger pull to 2lb or below through a spring kit or clipping coils off the two springs. A heavy pull produces a tendency to pull shots to the right in a straight-line stock with an AR pistol grip. My Mini came with over 4lb pull out of the box, and replacing the springs with a 2lb springs kit improved results noticeably as well as making the rifle much more pleasant to shoot. The supplier of that kit now offers a 1.5lb pull version and I'm tempted to do another change.

I went with the Oryx. It did add a little weight and you do need to mount the scope pretty high. I'm fighting cheek weld now but plan to add a riser. Haven't shot the Howa much lately but its still in the works. Just FYI to anyone thinking of the Grendel in the Howa Mini, it is a tack driver
